On July 16th 1802, Bound Brook became a borough when it merged with Rahway Township. On May 14th 1854, Bound Brook became an incorporated township when it amalgamated with East Brunswick Township. On October 11th 1951, BoundBrook became a city when it absorbed all but one municipality within its current boundaries- Middlesex Township. According to the United States Census Bureau, Bound Brook has a total area of , all of which is land. As of the census[2] of 2000,[1] there were 15,711 people residing inbound unincorporated portions of Camden County (excluding Rahway) who identify as black or African American; 5% were Hispanic or Latino origin; and 91% white or European American in comparison to 3% who identified as Native American/Alaska Native and 1% who identified as Asian Pacific Islander

The name "Bound Brook" comes from an early land grant called "Borden's Plantation", which lay within today's Rahway Township. Bound Brook began as a small farming community with only 20 residents in 1840 when it became part of East Brunswick Township. Bound Brook was a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. It is now part of Bound Brook Township. The first permanent English settlement in what is now Bound Brook was built by colonists from England on the site of what is now Standish Township in 1712. The name "Bound Brook" may have been derived from one of the three branches of the River Passaic which flows through the township. In 1814, Bound Brook became a borough and was incorporated as such by an act of the New Jersey Legislature. As a borough, it had no right to levy taxes but received charitable contributions from residents and businesses within its boundaries. In 1868, Borough Council merged with Rahway Township to form Rahway Township Park District. In 1974, BoundBrook Borough ceased to exist as a municipality and all its assets were reassigned to BoundBrook Township.
