Bergenfield is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 452 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Jersey City metropolitan area. The first European settlers in Bergenfield were Dutchmen who arrived from Zeeland in 1624 and named it "Bergendal" after their farm in that county. They were followed by English colonists in 1664, and the name evolved to "Bergenfield." Bergenfield was incorporated as a borough on February 12, 1846, from portions of Monmouth Township. The borough was taken over by Passaic County on January 1, 1951. The community began as a small farming village with about 25 residents. In 1887, the first railroad station was built here and traffic increased rapidly due to the opening of the Erie Railroad's mainline through town. A second depot was built in 1908 and more trains came through until 1970 when Amtrak took over all passenger service east of Trenton. In 1957, an oil refineries opened along Interstate 78 west of town which led to an increase in business for local businesses such as stores and restaurants along with increased development around this refinery including homesites for workers on-site. After years of decline during the late 1990s recession following Hurricane George (2000), oil production stopped completely within Bergenfield limits making it one of only a few townships statewide without any significant economic activity post-Katrina; however some businesses have resumed operations since then thanks to temporary repairs done to I-78 nearby caused by subsidence associated with crude oil production going back online again now that production has restarted at another well nearby ! Overall though there are few positives aspects to this situation given how much negative impact Katrina had overall on both regular Main Street businesses that rely on commerce and tourists alike while also taking away many jobs throughout Borough government jobs (mainly those outside citylimits) really leaves little room for hope or improvement if anything can be done beyond keeping things mostly status quo because progress has typically been pretty halting overall despite being mentioned before

Bergenfield is a borough in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 Census, the borough had a population of 31,826. Bergenfield was founded in 1764 by English settlers as part of the Moravian colony on Long Island. The name comes from Dutch berg (mountain), andefield (feld). The first settler in Bergenfield was Nicholas Biddle who arrived in 1764. With his family, Biddle erected a small farmstead on what is now known as West Shore Road. In 1768, George Washington appointed Nicholas Biddle as justice of the peace for Bergenfield Township. On December 7th of that year, at age 33 years old, NicholasBiddle died while serving in that capacity. In 1794, Jacob Weisenhorn purchased 1/2 interest in the township from Nicholas Biddle's widow for $520 worth of goods and services to be given to her son Isaac Weisenhorn upon his marriage to Elisabeth Greenbaum on October 3rd of that year. On May 10th following this wedding anniversary celebration at Weisenhorn's home on Easton Avenue near today's White Sands Boulevard and Park Avenue intersection, weizenhorn sold 1/4 interest he owned back to Biddle estate for $250 cash plus costs associated with sale including appraisals and land surveys which were prepared by noted mapmaker Benjamin Franklin Jr., future Mayor of Philadelphia (1737-1824) during his time living thereabouts! At present day it borders Northumberland County line just beyond Interstate 95! On November 15th 1814 James Caldwell bought 2/3 interest from Weisenhorn for $424 cash plus costs associated with sale including appraisals and land surveys which were prepared by noted mapmaker Benjamin Franklin Jr., future Mayor of Philadelphia (1737-1824) during his time living thereabouts! Caldwell also soon became sole proprietor when Joseph Pemberton failed to pay back Caldwell’s investment within 6 months!! This marks beginning of Borough history as it would not revert back again to state ownership until 1908 when it passed through Brooklyn Bridge hands once again!!! Today Bergenfield has many businesses located throughout its downtown area such as Barnes & Noble bookstore chain store; Stroud’s Furniture; Ford Motor Company dealership; Viacom Networks Nickelodeon broadcast studio complex; NJ Transit Train station - Amtrak train station is located just across Route 9 southbound exit off I-95 Business Loop east side !! These are but a few examples !!
