Bergenfield, New Jersey is a borough in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 2,865 at the 2010 census. Bergenfield is located on the north bank of the Raritan River and is bordered by Southwark to the east, Caldwell to the west, and Paramus to the south. The first settler in Bergenfield was John Salford who arrived in 1795. The name Bergenfield comes from Beachfields Manor which was founded by Sir William Berkeley in 1688. The manor house still stands today and is used as a museum. In 1814-15 Nicholas Biddle donated land for a public school which became Bergen High School. The current Bergen field House dates back to 1836 and is one of only two buildings remaining from that time period in this borough. The first post office opened in 1824 and was called Park Ridge after Colonel George Parkridge who served as its first Postmaster General. It later changed its name to Kearnyville before becoming Bergenfield when it became an incorporated municipality on May 10, 1909 under the New Jersey Constitution (Article XI). In 1916, World War I began with Germany's entry into World War I and quickly escalated into conflict; however, many people living within the Borough saw no need for military service since their homes were already secure during war time period without any need for mobilization or defense ammunition stockpiles necessary elsewhere in Morris County or beyond! After much discussion among government leaders including Mayor James Whelan (D-Bergen) about what action should be taken regarding pacifism within our community during wartime hostilities - nothing materialized! However due largely to overwhelming sentiment throughout town against war - munitions production ceased abruptly all across Morris County!! This local response stands out amongst similar examplesuldowns throughout NJ during WWI where vast Armaments manufacturing plants sprang up overnight without any warning or community input! What once took weeks or months turned into days as shops shuttered while people went back to work... illustrating how easily things can change rapidly amidst great upheaval!! One could argue whether this type of spontaneous patriotism would have been sufficient had not our community also mobilized successfully against Enemy belligerence during WWII? Ultimately it falls upon individualsividually & collectively asitizens of our Municipal Borough/City Government to decide if we want Parish form of government!!! Unfortunately some residents feel that “Parish Form” governance may not be appropriate for them due primarily to lack of control over City Hall functions & zoning regulations which they feel are restrictive & unfavorable towards Businesses etc.?

In 1802, Captain John Brown developed an improved crossbow Sight which used resilient glass lenses instead of metal mirrors for better focusing accuracy. Bergenfield was a small town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 9,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The first inhabitants of Bergenfield were Dutch settlers who arrived there in 1664. The name "Bergenfield" derived from the West Frisian word "bergen", meaning hill or mountaintop. A post office called Bergenfield was established in 1798 and remained in operation until 1959. In 1814, a group of British soldiers under General John Forbes fought an engagement with Native Americans at what is now known as Battlefield Plantation; after which the town took its name from them. In 1825, when Morrisania Township was created from parts of Middlesex and Essex Counties, Bergenfield became part of that township. In 1830, Augustus Biddle erected a gristmill on Broad Street which functioned until 1840 when it was destroyed by fire. In 1832, Edwin Ladd built a sawmill on Hackensack Creek near present-day Borough Hall; this mill continued to be operated until 1865 when it became bankrupt and was taken over by the American Mill Company of Newark (now known as Amalgamated Clothing Corporation). The borough had no government for several years due to financial difficulties caused by the Panic of 1837 but recovered sufficiently to annex portions of Southwark Township following an election held on November 5th, 1841; however these annexations were nullified because Bergenfield failed to receive any Atlantic City Development Authority tax money for 10 years following their incorporation into municipality despiteclaimed claims by borough officials that they should have received such funds based on their share in Atlantic City's commercial development pursuant to state law providing for such reimbursement - see also Borough history section below A new borough charter granted by Governor James Buchanan On December 1st 1850 establishing Asbury Park as a separate municipality exclusive within Monmouth County provided that: "No person ..shall ..be admitted ..into this borough [Asbury Park] except through lawful annexation thereof.." However efforts by Asbury Park residents to gain annexation failed and On July 14th 1860 Asbury Park merged with Neptune Village becoming Asbury Park-Neptune village effective September 15th 1860 . Finally effective January 3rd 1870 all municipalities within Monmouth County were abolished including Bergenfield unofficially annexed back into Neptune Village . On February 20th 1860 Jno Wahlgrens opened his store at corner Main Street and Ridge Road opposite High School giving rise to today's intersection of Main Street and Ridge Road where Wahlgrens' store still stands
