In 1885, Alexander Graham Bell built his first telephone transmitter in Baltimore County, Maryland. This event helped make telecommunications possible across much of America. During World War II, many Germans began building large-scale Scopes as part of their military efforts. Many of these devices were later used by Allied forces during the war effort. Bellmawr was founded by English colonists in 1714 and incorporated as a borough on November 3, 1834. The borough seat was moved to Woodbridge Township in 1868 and then to Suffern in 1924. On March 14, 2009, Bellmawr became one of eight townships within Middlesex County that were abolished and merged into the new county of Essex. Bellmawr was originally a part of Monmouthshire Township (now North Brunswick). In 1714, British colonists arrived in what is now Middlesex County and began to settle there. They named the area "Bellemawr" after their home country, England. The first town meeting was held on February 24th and approved naming the town "Middlesex". On October 10th of that year, it was decided to name the new township "Bellmawr", after General Sir William Howe's Defeat at Saratoga which ended Britain's War with America and restored American independence. The first post office opened in Bellmawr on August 20th, 1834 under the name Bellemawrkirk Springs; it closed on December 15th due to low mail volume from residents living too close to Philadelphia for transportation by horse or cart. The current post office building open since 1912 is located at 209 Josephine Street in downtown BellmawR

Bellmawr is a small town in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 1,835 at the 2010 census. Bellmawr is located on the north side of Christie Lake. The town was founded by John Bell in 1795 as a post office and farming community on his plantation near present-day Mount Laurel. The name "Bellmawr" comes from the Welsh word for "peaceful place". The first settler, James Fenton, arrived in 1797 and built what is now the Fenton House. In 1801, David Sands moved to Bellmawr fromMorristown with his family and started to farm while living in tents. By 1806, he had erected a frame courthouse and statehouse which still stand today. He also became one of the first trustees of Rutgers University (now Rutgers University–New Brunswick). A year later, Sands married Elizabeth Barnes who was also born in Mercer County. They had three children: James Sands Jr.,Elizabeth Barnes Sands III (born 1807), and John Jenkins Sands IV (1810-1892). In 1800 Congress passed an act providing for a branch line between Trenton and Newark via Millburn Township; this line became known as the Jersey Central Railroad article 4 railroads Act of 1800 (). However, because it crossed through Cumberland County undisturbed by Dutch settlers who were developing that township at that time – something that did not occur until after Confederation – development of mill townships along Route 206 stalled for some time before finally taking off around 1830 when Dutch settlers began moving into those areas too (). It wasn’t until 1820 when John Cohan purchased land east of current day Princeton Avenue within what is now eastern part of town from Samuel Halliburton – then owner of what are now West Side streets including Princeton Avenue – that bellmawr got its start as an agricultural community with families growing corn, peas, beans and other grains on their plantations close toNJ Transit’s Princeton Junction Station where they could easily get to markets all over New York City or Philadelphia.(Cohan also converted his plantation house into a hotel.) Bellmawr continued to grow steadily until about 1850 when large farms were replaced by much closer villages such as Rahway which developed rapidly due to railroads running through the area; Rahway’s growth halted abruptly around 1900 when rails were extended westward to Suffern.(Rahway has since redeveloped somewhat but it remains an unincorporated community.)) During most parts of its history bellmawr was rural with only 2% being urbanized; however starting around 1950 there has been significant redevelopment taking place especially among younger generations with high concentrations throughout Downtown/Downtown South/Southwest(Now called “the Loop”) etc.. One recent example is JDS Unterberger LLP which occupiespaces adjacent to NJ Transit's Somerset Yards Station & continues operations despite objections from neighboring businesses (& nearby public school) about increased traffic noise & light pollution caused by their new buildingoccupancy.;-)

The name of the town comes from two parts of a single word: bell and mawr. Bellmawr was originally called "Mowney", which was spelled "Monmouth". Monmouth was changed to Bellmawr because of an error by one of the original settlers, Gov. John Bell II.
