One such airfield was RAF Boulogne-sur-Mer near where present day Route 73 crosses it on its way between Clifton and Paramus; it served as Middlesex County Airport from 1941 until 1944 when it became Clifton Municipal Airport after being placed within Bergen County limits according to county government reorganization that took place following World War II settlement plans which favored rural counties over urban ones. The wartime airport closed down effective 1 February 1946 when all USAF activities were transferred from Newark Liberty International Airport westward to Chelmsford/ Framingham Municipal Airport northeast of Boston due to surface competition from JFK International Airport east of New York City for both commercial passenger traffic opportunities; Chelmsford/Framingham reopened as an international airport on 15 May 1948.]
