Bayonne is a borough in the New Jersey metropolitan area, located on the east bank of the Hudson River. As of 2010, the borough had a population of 84,735 and was considered one of the most ethnically diverse in New Jersey. Bayonne has been home to thriving commercial and industrial districts since its founding as an experimental town in 1812. The current name derives from a Native American word meaning "place where buffalo grazed." The first Europeans to visit Bayonne were Dutch settlers who arrived in 1624. In 1714, English colonists founded a trading post at present-day Bayonne. By 1727, all of Newark–Jersey City had been founded and it was clear that Bayonne would be an important commercial center. The British took over control of Newark during the French and Indian War (1756-63) and decided to establish their own colony on land that lay between Fort George on the Hackensack River and Perth Amboy on Long Island Sound. They named this new settlement for Prince Charles Edward Stuart, Duke of York (later King George III), who had unsuccessfully attempted to gain independence from Great Britain during the war. In 1764, when William Paterson was elected Governor of New Jersey he moved his family from Scotland to what is now Bayonne in order to take up residence there because he saw it as an opportunity for business development within a fledgling state government led by men with experience running large farms northward into Pennsylvania Colony – then under colonial rule – but without access to those resources or markets southward which would have provided economic growth potential for his territory. This original Paterson Settlement included 350 people including 30 wives and children plus their parents or guardians; 50 acres (200 m2) farmland; three houses; two stores; three tanneries; four fisheries; six churches services each week with communion being celebrated at five different locations including Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church which functioned as parish house until 1836 when it became known as Goodrich Synagogue due lack of space inside Great Trinity Presbyterian Church after that congregation’s purchase by German Jews led by Abraham Goodrich. The First Baptist Church also served as burro stable while both Goodrich synagogues served as meeting places for municipal officials such as mayors, representatives from businesses within bayonnetowne proper & other public meetings throughout this period before becoming private dwellings around 1830 when these facilities became too expensive or inconveniently situated atop hilltops surrounded by dense forest where horseback riding & hiking were popular pastimes among locals until spooking activities involving small animals began occurring near& about 1900 AD resulting in more severe ghost sightings near present day intersection Of Orange Avenue And Hwy 9 South

Bayonne is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 34,522 at the 2010 Census. The borough was formed on April 15, 1856 from parts of Harrison Township and Westwood Township. Bayonne is named after Bayonne in Monmouth County. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Bayonne were Dutch settlers who started out trading with the Lenape Indians in 1624. In 1711, the British claimed New Netherland and established Fort George at Perth Amboy as part of their attempt to claim all of North America for Britain. The British abandoned this effort in 1763 when they lost possession of America to the French. In 1801, Bayonne was incorporated as a township by an act of the General Assembly of New Jersey. It became a borough on April 15, 1856 following an election by referendum. At that time it had a population of 3,224 residents living within its borders and 7 miles (11 km) outside of it along the Hackensack River estuary which made it one of the most isolated municipalities in New Jersey. Bayonne's early growth was due to its location on two major shipsbuilding and fishing businesses located there; Harkins & Sons Shipyard and Swenning Brothers Seafood Company both founded before 1800s and still operate today within town limits today; both businesses were essential for local maritime commerce during those days before water transportation became prevalent throughout much of North America
Bayonne was founded in 1665 by Peter Minuit. The city became a part of the United States in 1776. Bayonne is the second largest city in New Jersey and the seventh largest city in New York City. It is also home to the Newark Liberty International Airport, one of America's busiest airports.
