In 1776 during America's Revolutionary War Lieutenant Colonel George Washington landed at Forks Point on Long Island with his troops disembarking from HMS Yorktown for their winter quarters before marching upriver towards Princetonshire where they were joined by General Howe's army under General Clinton near Piscataway Creek on January 8th 1777 In 1814 Bayonne was incorporated as a village within Bergen Township while still part of Middlesex County; butumber more than 200 families lived there until 1853 when township status was restored In 1871 Bayonne annexed Ocean Township making it one of its seven municipalities In 1924 all seven municipalities were combined into one new municipality called "Bayonne-Ocean" with a population growth rate above average On October 25th 2009 Mayor Ray Kelly announced plans for an approximately $100 million project dubbed "OneAmerica", which would include renovation/expansion of several municipal facilities including: school district offices; police station; stadium; parking garage; library/community center; waterfront park adjacent to bayou Des Plaines Mayor Kelly also announced that OneAmerica would be home to both Rutgers University' newly created School of Dental Medicine and Wexner Medical Center - both world-renowned medical facilities - creating what will be known as "Newark South Campus". The project is scheduled for completion in 2020 . Withdrawn from consideration for this original application were plans for an additional highrise hotel adjacent to Parking Garage 2 which would have blocked views from Roosevelt Park across river
