Bayonne, New Jersey is a city in the United States. The population was 23,811 at the 2010 census. It is the 9th-largest city in New Jersey and the 5th-most populous city in Camden County. Bayonne is located on the Delaware River between Camden and Newark, across from Penn's Landing on the Hudson River. The site of what is now Bayonne was originally part of Easton Township, from which it took its name. On July 1, 1764, during the Swedish Invasion of America, General John Forbes attacked Easton with a force of about 100 men and burned down all but one house in town before retreating to Canada; this event is commemorated by a small monument located at State College Avenue and Park Avenue (now Lancaster Avenue) in Bayonne. In 1834, President Andrew Johnson issued an executive order creating township form government for Lower Cape May County; this order created Bayonne as one of eight townships within Lower Cape May County. In 1840–1841 Census there were 753 people living in Bayonne; by 1860 it had grown to 2,638 with a population density of 412 residents per square mile (158/km²). By 1930 there were 10,020 people living in Bayonne with a population density of 831 residents per square mile (291/km²). The first post office opened in bayonne on October 12, 1837; it closed on December 6 following liquidation due to complications associated with mail delivery through open fields at that time. The first mayor was George Prentice who served from 1851–1854 and again from 1863 until his death on November 5 that year. The second mayor was James Whelan who served from 1865 until his death on January 14 1865 after being elected unopposed to serve out the unexpired term caused by Mayor Prentice’s death two months earlier while serving as Lieutenant Governor under Abraham Lincoln during Reconstruction efforts following American Civil War ending when Lincoln became president Ulysses S Grant In 1886 Isaac Newton Holmes donated land east of Broad Street for what would become Holmes Place Cemetery which still stands today as one of only three cemeteries within downtown Newark without interment rights granted pursuant to statute passed by then-Governor Franklin D Roosevelt subsequent to World War II . In 1918 Jack Lynch purchased 3 acres northwest corner Macclesfield Road and Yeshiva Drive for $10K believed to be Newark’s first private golf course which remains operational today as Quarry Course Golf Resort

Bayonne is a borough in New Jersey, United States. The population was 12,005 as of the 2010 Census. It is located on the Jersey Shore and is bordered by Monmouth County to the east, Neptune Township to the north, Atlantic County to the west and south, and Southold Township to the northwest. Bayonne's boundaries were largely drawn from Indian Creek township including present-day Bayonne Heights, east of the creek; Upper Bayonne including most of what is now Midtown Bayonne while still being bordered by Lower Bayonne on two sides; and finally Clifton which today forms part of East Newark. The first Europeans encountered in what is now Bayonne were Dutch colonists who settled there in 1624. The area that became Bayonne was originally named "Westert" (later called "Bayonna"), after Count Floris Vosburgh's estate at Westertus in Holland. In 1638 Henry Hudson explored and mapped what would become New York Harbor and named it after his father-in-law Fransico van der Molen, a Dutch nobleman who had served as Governor of New Netherland during English rule over that part of North America since 1584. In 1764, when George Washington was commander general of U.S.-led forces in Westchester County during the French and Indian War, he ordered Captain John Stevens with four companies of marines to patrol along Long Island Sound for British forces then under way from Staten Island across to Long Branch on Staten Island opposite Brooklyn. On July 5th they sighted Fort Tryon (now known as Battery Park City) just south of modern-day Livingston Avenue/Bay Ridge Boulevard in present-day Midtown Bayonne Borough before continuing their patrol some leagues further upriver until July 8th when they came upon an encampment consisting onlyof French Canadian troops garrisoned at Ossining Falls just north of modern day North Brunswick Avenue/Route 9A inside present day Secaucus Junction Freehold Borough limits where American forces had been stationing for several weeks prior based on instructions from General Washington himself following reports back home about British troop movements near Kingston Point on Staten Island opposite Brooklyn (the site where today's Crossroads shopping mall stands). On July 10th Captain Stevens reported this information back home to General Washington who authorizes him instead to march directly upon Ossining Falls without waiting for reinforcements - an order whichWashington promptly carries out resulting in one French Canadian soldier dead and many more captured or detainedenda later becoming part of American military strategy leading up to Philadelphia campaign against France during September 1777). In 1794 Nicholas Peskin purchased land comprising parts of current Midtown Bayonne Borough from Nicholas Auchincloss & Sons – one such purchase followed years earlier when Peskin & Sons bought 100 acres extending along present day Spring Street/Route 9A between Cedar Grove Road/Queenstown Road westward into Monmouth County from John Woolwich Sr., proprietor thereof – another purchase followed years earlier when Peskin’s son Nicholas AuchinclossPurchase Land extended along Spring Street/Route 9A between Cedar Grove Road/Queenstown Road westward into Monmouth County from John Woolwich Sr., proprietor thereof). At its peak early 1800s these purchases resulted in 4 villages developing within bayoubayonedevelopment: Albano Village developed around Spring Street intersection with Route 3; Bayside Village developed around Post Office Alley intersection with Spring Street; Clifton Village developed around Present Day Main St./Route 9A junction with Cedar Grove Road/QueenstownRoadwestward into Monmouth County from John Woolwich Sr., proprietor thereof; Emerson’s Landing developed around Eagle Rock Corner intersection with Queenstown Roadwestward into Monmouth County from John Woolwich Sr., proprietor thereof).
