Roosevelt's wife Eleanor stayed at her brother's home on Grove Street just east of Sandy Beach before continuing her campaign trip to Atlantic City later that week. On May 1st 1903 saw the first vehicular traffic fatalities in Asbury Park when Harry Jankowski drove into a puddle after leaving work late; he died instantly from his injuries). On December 12th 1905 actor Edwin Booth had an accident near his home which left him brain dead for six weeks before being found unconscious next to his horse buggy near Belle Haven Drive - this caused public outrage over driver safety concerns (Booth's widow Julia played Mrs Tappanvelle in "Hamlet").
