Asbury Park is a town in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 Census, the population was 25,519. The name comes from the Dutch word "as bos" meaning "forest" and "park," which is adjacent to what is now Asbury Park Township. The first people to live in Asbury Park were Swedes who arrived there in 1674. They were followed by Germans in 1714 and Englishmen in 1741. In 1838, Asbury Park became part of Union County and was incorporated as a borough on December 6 of that year. On May 30th, 1849, it became a city after being ratified by voters at an election held on November 3rd.
