Asbury Park, New Jersey is a small town in Ocean County, New Jersey on the southern tip of Long Island. Asbury Park was established in 1764 as a small outpost on the then uninhabited island of Monmouth. The town grew rapidly during the 1800s and reached its peak during the mid-19th century with large population sizes and an active trade economy. However, since the early 21st century Asbury Park has experienced steady decline in population and economic activity. Asbury Park is located at (40.860972, -76.211877). According to the United States Census Bureau, the township had a total area of 2 square miles (5 km²), including 1 square mile (0.6 km²) of water. The township was formed on April 14, 1764 from parts of Neptune's Neck Township and South Amboy Township. On July 15, 1837 it became part of Readington Township when that township was created from portions of Monmouth and Neptune's Neck Townships. In 1838 Asbury Park incorporated as a city under provisions of Act XI of 1839 which granted cityhood to any municipality with a population over 10,000 without special approval from the state government; however this did not happen until 1861 when Asbury Park voters approved an ordinance granting city status to all municipalities with a population over 50000 regardless of size or lack thereof In 1906 Asbury Park became integrated into Princeton University's expanding campus; however after years of declining enrollment and budget cuts by Princeton University City Council members as well as protests by students led to university officials moving their main offices out-of-town for two years beginning in 2009 until they reopened within sight of downtown in 2013). After several yearsasusberry park lost its municipal charter due to low voter turnout rates while other municipalities gained charters despite lower voter turnouts – making it one municipality without city status which still exists today outside federal law albeit unrecognized by Trenton authorities Despite this situation as well as continuing protests and pressure from students local officials have made little progress towards reestablishing municipal authority despite receiving numerous complaints Asbury Park also remains home to both Rutgers–Newark College Preparatory School (Rutgers Preparatory School) and Weequahic High School which enrolls 9th through 12th grade students who are continuation high schoolers attending nearby schools such as Sayre Hall High School or Woodbridge Regional High School although these schools no longer offer associate degree programs . In recent years there have been plans for Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) to open up shop near our high school but those plans appear stalled now that Piscataway Township has taken over responsibility for that portion

Asbury Park is a borough in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 Census, the population was 29,722. It is located on the New Jersey Turnpike East between Atlantic City and Middletown. The name "Asbury" comes from an English word meaning "safe place." The first European settlers in what is now Asbury Park were Dutch colonists who arrived in 1624 and built a small outpost on the site of present-day Asbury Heights. The first English settlers arrived in 1714 and founded Princeton Township. In 1837, as part of the American Civil War, Union forces attacked Princeton while under Confederate control; they burned down all of the town's buildings but spared Asbury Park, which sided with the Union. During World War II, Asbury Park was one of three towns that remained unoccupied by U.S. troops because they were deployed to support other municipalities such as Monmouth Junction (which was also unoccupied) and Neptune Beach (which was evacuated). In 1955, Asbury Park became an incorporated borough when portions of Edison Township were annexed into Monmouth County; it had been a township since 1837. On November 15th, 1959 Borough Council passed an ordinance establishing day care facilities for children living within its boundaries as part of a larger effort to reduce crime in Boroughs across New Jersey due to racial segregation at that time which continued until 1984 when state anti-discrimination ordinances took effect statewide; this led to day care being closed within some boroughs such as Asbury Park until then. Although night hours are not allowed within borough borders pursuant to state law governing alcohol consumption by adults age 21 or older., there are several nightlife venues located throughout central NJ open late including Slippery Rock University's Arboretum nightclub located on Broad Avenue (just east of Route 9) between Eighth Street and Ninth Street; local quartet Gov't Mule has released two albums at both locations since 2007; also just off Broad Avenue near Rutgers' undergraduate campus - along with several other bars - is Ponce de Leon Casino which opened December 12th 2006 after years spent planning and construction
