Somersworth is a town in Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 5,895 at the 2010 census. Somersworth is part of the Manchester-Newton-Hillsborough metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what is now Somersworth was Samuel Worthington in 1769. The town was named for John Somers, 6th Viscount Somers (1584–1652), a Tory MP who served as Secretary at War from 1624 to 1627 and then Minister without Portfolio from 1628 to 1630. In 1812, the townspeople voted to secede fromNH and become a separate state called Vermont. But this effort failed when NH residents voted overwhelmingly in favor of joining the Union as a country. In 1830, Plymouth Rock resident Gideon Welles donated land to create what would become the center of town square and built the first gristmill onUCKET Brook (now occupied by Mercy Hospital). In 1836, local farmers met to form a grain company which would process corn into flour for export. In 1840, construction began on what would be known as "The Granary", later renamed "The State House" after its completion. At that time it was one of only two brick buildings in NH with an interior courtyard plaza surrounded by single story dwellings on all sides excepting one side which housed storagerooms and an engine house used for power generation until 1925 when that portion was torn down and replaced with modern infrastructure including a large parking lot across from the State House complex today. It wasn’t until 1851 that granite blocks were quarried locally and used to build government buildings elsewhere in NH however many members of Congress who had their homes here before leaving office continued living here through their children or grandchildren until shortly before their death notable examples being James Buchanan (1847-1925) during his presidency, Calvin Coolidge (1923-1929) during World War II and Gerald Ford (1974-1981). At that time there were also several large mills such as those owned by Ewing Shaw & Sons which processed lumber into flooring materials such as wood veneers; these companies have long since been replaced by smaller manufacturers but some remnants still remain today including Anderlecht Mill which processes laundry detergent into fabric softeners; Pioneer Mill which processes eggs into chocolates; Lancaster Millschery processor whose yarn is spun into fabric thread; Hatch Manufacturing Company has been active ever since making ammonia plants popular post WWII due to their environmentally friendly design principles while other companies like Pee Wee's Pizza continue making traditional pizza doughs today although they no longer use wood burning ovens.] In 1905 there were three churches: Congregational Dutch Reformed Church #1 where Reverend Halsey preached daily until his death in 1903; Evangelical Lutheran Church #2 where Reverend Julius Kappenzeller preached until his death in 1906 also serving as pastor until 1907; Methodist Episcopal Church #3 also served as pastor until 1911] And finally Presbyterian Church #4 located east off Main Street]. According to historical records, local schools included West End School#1 opened September 1st 1870 serve't instruction up through 3rd grade providing daycare services for school aged children between 7&14 years old while Potterfield School#2 operated from May 1st 1860 thru March 31st 1865 teaching grades 4-8 along with science laboratory opportunities both boys AND girls] There are currently six businesses left open withinkm radius including four restaurants/cafés - The Coffee Shop (#1 closed 2009), Diner (#2 closed 2006), Chinese Theatre(closed 2007) & Jack Daniels' BBQ restaurant (#3 closed 2008)]. As well resides Stonington Aquarium opened August 8th 1904 contains over 25 different fish species ] One significant event not reported occurred on this date - On July 12th 1886 President Grover Cleveland delivered his Annual Address at Masonic Hall [now North Adams Grange Park] awarding benefits totaling $7000 dollars towardsREAL estate improvement fund established earlier that year]. [Later Brunswick National Bank building destroyed by fire]NH Historical Society has published two volumes documenting our early history published entitled "History Of Hillsborough County 1880 – 1910" Volume I covering 1800 – 1900 volume II covering 1910 – 1920

Somersworth is a town in New Hampshire, United States. It was first settled by English colonists in 1636. Somersworth's original name was Northwich and it changed to Somersworth in 1719 when the town became part of the Province of New Hampshire. The population was 23,890 at the 2010 census. Somersworth is located on the border of Goffstown and Manchester townships. The town was founded by English colonists in 1636 as Northwich, after they arrived in New England that year from London. In 1719, it became part of the Province of New Hampshire and changed its name to Somersworth after John Somers, an early settler who had made his home thereabouts. The community developed rapidly due to its location on Route 9 southwest ofManchester, which led to its nickname "the City of highways." By 1812, Somersworth had a population totaling 21 people; it grew rapidly during the 19th century thanks to new transportation opportunities opened up by railroads and other advances in technology. By 1923, however, the total population had dwindled below 10 people because World War I destroyed most rural areas in eastern New England; during World War II only a few scattered buildings remained standing among ruins that were razed for firefighting purposes. Despite this decline over time, Somersworth has continued to thrive as an agricultural center with two small-scale shopping malls – one on Monday through Saturday and one on Sundays – as well as several large-scale commercial developments such as Phillips 66 Refinery (now Belknap) and Comcast Cable’s regional office complex known as The Ringrose Switching Station (now part of Time Warner Cable). A Regional Arts District has been established within the town limits since 2006 that offers cultural programming including art galleries, music venues and theaters throughout downtown area; and there are also several historical sites located within or nearby town boundaries including Northwich Parish House dating back to 1676 where Parliament met before moving westward along Connecticut River;rigorous opposition against statehood led to separation of NH from MA in 1802; local historian Driscoll published "A History OfNH" circa 1950 documenting some 125 years worth of NH history In recent years many businesses have moved out into warmer climates leaving more empty storefronts throughout central NH but still muchto explore & discover about this great small town!
