By 1825, there were sixsmiths and twelve blacksmiths in the town. In 1851, a sawmill was built and Tool Manufacturing Company was organized to produce tools. The company grew and produced a wide variety of tools including agricultural implements, fire starters, plows, roadsides markers and other products. In 1916, Tool Manufacturing Company merged with Needham & Co., which became known as Needham Tools Incorporated. Needham Tools continued to produce high quality tools until its closure in 1984. Today there are several businesses that continue the manufacture of multi-tools including Needham Tools Incorporated (now part of Black Diamond Gear), Two Brothers Cutlery (owned by Schneider Electric), Henniker Industries (owned by Josephine Lundgren) and Hudson's Bay Company (owned by Fidelity Investments).

Somersworth is a town in New Hampshire, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Somersworth is located in the southeast corner of the state and is bordered by Durham to the west, Lebanon to the north, and Goffstown to the east. The first permanent settler in what is now Somersworth was Nicholas Gorham, who platted a grant in 1786 on land that he hadOWNED since 1612 when his ancestorsquadron of horse-drawn wagons traveled through this area surveying and trading with Native Americans. In 1801 Gorham sold his grant to Nathaniel Palmer for $5,000. Palmer erected a sawmill thereon in 1802 and named it after himself – Pemberton Mills (now part of Dover). The mill became an important economic center within the town during its early years; it processed lumber from local forests and delivered it to New York City and other parts of North America. In 1814–15 a party of thirteen men led by Major John Parker explored northeast NH for mineral prospects. They discovered coal seams near present-day Somersworth but not until two years later did they report their findings to George Peake, British Colonist Minister at Manchester Colony (later Manchester), England. Peake ordered an exploration campaign that resulted in rich discoveries including large quantities of coal on both sides of the Connecticut River. The town's nickname "CoalTown" originated with this period of prosperity. Over time Somersworth's economy shifted from agriculture to manufacturing as more people moved intotown from surrounding rural communities during World War II while industries such as trucking, textiles, printing mills, plastics manufacture grew up around it; however some traditional businesses closed or changed hands over time such as Jugoslavia's largest brewer Koffee Klubs which closed its doors in 1984 after more than sixty years brewing coffee hereabouts; many residents still reminisce about those days when their favorite Coffee Shop remained open even though production stopped locally long ago!
