The first gun magazines in Somersworth were established in 1859. The first magazine was called the "Somersworth Republican" and it served as a local paper's monthly magazine. It was located on High Street. The second magazine, which was also called the "Republican", was established in 1865. It served as a weekly newspaper's monthly magazine. In 1894, the "Republican" merged with another local paper, the "Herald". This merger created what is now known as the "Herald-Republican" Magazine Company. In 1903, an armory and restaurant were built on Elmwood Avenue in Somersworth by J.B. Goodwin & Sons of Manchester, New Hampshire. This armory became known as the Goodman Armory and it continued to serve as such until 1959 when it closed down due to lack of business opportunities.
Somersworth, New Hampshire is a town in Sullivan County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. Somersworth is part of the Portsmouth–Newport News Metropolitan Statistical Area. Somersworth is known for its many farms and forests which provide much of the town's income. The name Somersworth comes from an English place-name meaning "hollow by the sea shore." The first settlers in what became Somersworth were British soldiers who arrived during the Revolutionary War to help protect American interests in New England. Most of these soldiers were killed or wounded in action and so their families founded a small farmstead on what is now Main Street in 1795. With few exceptions, every main street and village in present-day Somersworth was founded by early residents themselves. One of the most significant moments in town's history occurred when General George Washington arrived here on October 10, 1798 to open trade with Great Britain following his successful campaign against France across Canada and Quebec. This event has been called "the day that Somersworth began" as it marked a turning point for this small community and set off a series of increasingly prosperous years. This key period also saw the founding of two churches: First Presbyterian Church (founded 1801) and Methodist Episcopal Church (founded 1836). In 1853, local physician Drs John Denton (1815-1906), James Aiken (1825-1910) and Horace Greeley (1795-1872) all came to town to found Valley Hospital which still exists today as one of NH's largest healthcare providers with over 350 employees nationwide! In 1886, local man Wm Halsey built one ofNH's first commercial buildings - The Gilded Cage - which still stands adjacent to Main Street today. It was here that he startedNH's first radio station - WMNH - now Radio NH! During World War II many people from Somersworth served overseas including those who worked at DOD plants such as Mitsubishi Heavy Industries plant #1 where locals helped build roads and bridges critical to military operations throughout North America; Air Force Plant No 9A near Manchester; Army Plant No 6 in Richfield; Navy Yard facility at Hampton Roads; Brunswick Arsenal ammunition plant...and more! Today there are over 100 businesses based in Somersworth employing nearly 500 workers providing quality products & services to our customers statewide! Today some residents continue their support for local businesses through various fundraising events such as Car Show Days/Wine Tasting Nights or Homecoming weekends while others preferocus on staying connected via social media sites like Face Book or Twitter!

The village that now stands near the junction of U.S. Route 202 and NHRoute 9 became a town in 1887 when it absorbed part of neighboring Leicester. Somersworth's location on NHRoute 202 made it an important trade center during the early years of the 20th century and its economy continued to be strong until after World War II when its growth slowed due to suburbanization and other factors
Somersworth was founded in 1736 by Capt. John Somers and his wife, Mary. The town became a part of New Hampshire in 1803. In the late 1800s, Somersworth experienced economic growth due to its location as a natural gas hub.
