In 1801, Somersworth became the site of a gunnery school and arsenal. The first weapons were acquired from French traders. In 1812, the town was burned to the ground by a band of British Tories during the War of 1812. However, the town was rebuilt and in 1816, it became home to New Hampshire’s first statehouse. A year later, Massachusetts closed its own gunnery school in Concord and moved its arsenal to Somersworth. This led to an increase in firearm-related activity in Somersworth and nearby towns such as North Conway and Hampton. With increased production at local mills, firearms began becoming more affordable for everyday citizens. This period is also notable for the invention of percussion cap pistols which allowed for greater accuracy than earlier firearms. By 1830, all ammunition shops in Somersworth had been converted into arsenals effective January 1st that year. Ammunition production continued until around 1860 when guns began being replaced by rifles in favor of artillery equipment due to advances in technology

Somersworth is a small town in Hampshire County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. Somersworth is part of the Manchester-Nashua-Newburgh, NH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town is known for its wide variety of products, including fruit trees and vegetables grown on large communal farms, as well as its annual cider festival and apple orchard. Somersworth has also been home to several notable people over the years, including former U.S. Representative John Hughes (D), banker Wesley Clark (D), and painter Edward Munch (H). The town was first settled in 1736 by George Somers and his family after they left Northampton for Portsmouth because of religious persecution there. In 1815, Captain Israel Putnam came to live in the area and started a ferry service between Manchester and Nashua. This trade helped pull Somersworth out of economic obscurity until he died in 1892. The first post office was established in 1824; it closed due to low mail volume in 1951. In 1860 John Quincy Adams moved from Easthampton to live near Nashua with his wife Abigail Adams Palfrey; they were followed by their son John Quincy Adams II soon afterward. In 1911 the towns merged under one name: Somersworth ville (now Manchester). A fire destroyed most of the homes in 1922; however, local businesses continued to function despite damage done during that year's storm surge caused by Hurricane Agnes approaches from Maine two days later. After much debate among local officials about what type of shopping center should be built near downtown after World War II ended+, this decision led to the establishment of Route 65/Route 3 commercial corridor just east of downtown which still functions today as an important source of revenue for both communities today! According to the 2000 US Census*, there were 1,669 people residing in Somersworth when it first reported its population data; however this number had dropped slightly by 2009* due largely to annexation within neighboring villages since then*! Somersworth is a town in Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. Somersworth is part of the Manchester-New London metropolitan area. The first settler in what would become Somersworth was John Greenough who arrived in 1775 and established the village of Greenough on Meetinghouse Hill. He was followed by his son, Nathaniel Greenough, who founded the town of Somersworth on Brainard's Mill Creek in 1787. The townsite was platted by Solomon Westcott and named for him after his birthplace in Somerset, England. In 1812, Ethan Allen served as a delegate to a meeting held at which planters recommended incorporation into a new county because they were "in fear that their title to lands lying within this county might be taken from them without their consent." On July 8th of that year, the town voted to incorporate into Hillsborough County and it formally became a part of NH on August 25th of that year. On October 3rd, 1861 when NH formed its present boundaries pursuant to an act approved by the New Hampshire General Court two days earlier*, Somersworth passed through state lines into Union Township which had been created adjacent to Manchester upon withdrawal fromNH by Granite State males over 21 years old* On February 15th 1946 *the last day before NH joined with Merrimack Valley (now Rockingham) County* duringNH's early days as an independent state post office district “Somerswear” received its first ZIP code – 03402 – which has since been absorbed into Manchester* During World War II** residents mobilized and worked hard providing materials and services such as lumbering and baking goods for military sites throughout easternNH*** There are several notable local veterans including David Sanger who served as Mayor from 1984 until 2002; Edward Jorgensen Sr., owner/operator of Jorgensen's Fruit Market; Bill Herrity who operated Herrity's Restaurant & Bakery; Herb Andelman who operated Pershing Chevrolet Dealerships out of his home until he sold it in 2006;and Frank Ziegler whose Farmingdale Drive Businesses provided employment for many locals during those difficult times
The town of Somersworth was founded by the Pilgrims in 1620. The town building was completed in 1702. The first post office was established in Somersworth in 1796. In 1806, the town became a part of Granite State Territory. On January 1, 1912, the town merged with other towns in Granite State Territory to form the present-day city of Manchester.
