Somersworth, New Hampshire is a town in Exeter County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 1,562 at the 2010 census. Somersworth is part of the Portsmouth–New Bedford, NH-VT Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Somersworth were five women and their children who arrived on July 10, 1798 from Ipswich, Massachusetts on the sloop "Doris". They built a log cabin on the hill overlooking the river which still stands today. In 1802 they erected a frame house which still stands today and is used as a museum. On May 15th of that year four more families – six women and four men – arrived from Norwich by boat to begin farming here. The first crops were corn and peas but soon other fruits and vegetables were grown including squash and potatoes. In 1810 three brothers started raising horses for local farmers while one brother kept an inn in town. In 1814 two brothers began cattleraising here when they bought land southeast of town from John Morse for $1 per acre (this land now includes most of the former Somersworth Village). By 1830 over fifty head of cows had been raised with some thirty additional calves added during this time period. Over time many other businesses such as groceries, hardware store, post office have also been established in Somersworth thanks to its rich cultural heritage including several churches (St James Episcopal Church & Church of England School), art galleries (Fenway Park Gallery & Plymouth Arts Center), theaters (the Farnsworth Theatre Company & Nashua Playwrights Studio), bowling alley (Cascade BowlsCenters) and many others! In 1941 Somersworth was hit hard by World War II with nearly all its citizens working inside or nearby military installations such asexhaust parts for P-47 Thunderbolt fighter aircraft or making munitions likeinitially glass destined for use in V-2 rockets but eventually becoming large scale manufacturers of war materials like construction equipment/steel structures etc.. After World War II there was another big change with residents moving out to larger townships such as Manchester or Dover while small businesses slowly went out of business until only a few remain today like The Bookstore which reopened after being closed for years due to firewood shortages! Today much has been preserved within old homes such as apple trees growing down to street level; beautiful gardens around every home complete with lilies; hand carved wood doors dating back to colonial times; unique plasterwork; schoolhouse conversions into apartments etc.. There are also several annual events happening throughout the year like Pumpkin Festival on October 11th followed byractor pulls on December 6th brought about by donations from locals; Quilt Show on January 7th where Proceeds go towards numerous charities/projects throughout New Hampshire.; Christmas Tree Lighting up Town Hall Lawn November 25th followed byMerry Christmas Parade December 6th

Somersworth is a town in New Hampshire, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. Somersworth is part of the Manchester-Hathaway, New Hampshire Metropolitan Statistical Area. It lies on the border of Plymouth and Hillsborough counties and is east of the city of Manchester. The first known permanent settler in Somersworth was Jonathan Swift who arrived in 1768 from England. He built a sawmill on what is now Elm Street near the present day library and school complex. Other early settlers included Daniel Baker, Jeremiah Dolan, Nicholas French, Isaac Goodspeed, Ebenezer Holmes, John Meador and Nathaniel Putnam. In 1802 Jacob Rome established a gristmill on present day Main Street which became one of NH's largest commercial enterprises with its own millstream running south to north. In 1822NH incorporated as a town under the name "Manchester." On July 1st 1824 Somersworth had 731 residents when it merged with Hillsborough to form Manchester-Hathaway County which had 10 towns within its boundaries: Bridgewater (now part of Rochester), Bolton (now part of Lebanon), Caperton (now part of Amherst), Danbury (now part of Watertown), East Hampton (later Norwich), Goffstown (later Goffstown Junction), Gosport (now Georgetown) and Lowell (later Lowell Junction). The first post office in Somersworth was opened on November 3rd 1830 by Amos Grafton Jr.. The town has since been moved around quite a bit due to changes in land ownership and population growth; however most notably it retains its original location at Elm Street between Main and Webster Streets across from the NH State Library Complex since that building was added to the townscape in 1984. NH statehood occurred on April 12th 1912 when NH General Assembly passed an act entitled "An Act To Grant Statehood To New Hampshire" by then Governor Samuel Zebulon Blair Foster incorporating Adamsboro into NH as well as Rockingham into NH giving them their own states within their respective borders for those two towns only! During World War II veteran's housing projects were set up throughout eastern NH to provide temporary housing for war veterans over the winter months while their homes were being repaired or replaced... many such projects remain extant today including Oneida Lake Veterans Home located just outside Ofran NY
