In 1805 James Kinsman laid out a road from Boston to Portsmouth and called it "Kinsman's Road". This road served as an important artery for goods transportation throughout northeastern Massachusetts until it was replaced bythe natatorium Parkway in 1927; however, some remnants of Kinsman's Road can still be seen today as part of State Route 9A (US 20/92) just south of downtown Rochester
