Nashua is the county seat of Hillsborough County and is home to the NH State Capitol building and many other government buildings. The Town of Nashua straddles the border of Hillsborough County and Granite State counties forming an area known asNH Southern Tier. In addition to its cultural significance, rifle scopes have been a part of local history for over 200 years in Nashua. The first rifles were muzzleloaders with sights mounted on barrels dating back to 1795 when Captain John Smith used a crossbow to shoot at deer in what is now Flanders Field in Boston. Rifle scopes became popularized by Major General James Wilkinson during the American Revolution due to their usefulness in target shooting and battlefield observation. Rifle scopes were soon being used by both sides in warfare, with British riflemen using them primarily for hunting while Americans used them for night visioning and precision military targetshooting. Nashua is one of the most populous towns in New England and its local economy depends largely on tourism and small businesses. The name "Nashua" is thought to be derived from the Mohawk word NASHUA meaning "watercourse." The first European settlement in what is now Nashua County was made by colonists from Massachusetts in 1621. In 1760, the town of Portsmouth was founded by General James Fletcher as part of an effort to extend British control over what are now Vermont, Maine, and New Hampshire. By 1800, there were over 100 Dutch families living in Nashua County. After a series of assaults against Native Americans culminating with the Battle of Bunker Hill (1775), Governor John Adams ordered all white male citizens between the ages of 25 and 44 years old to leave for good within two months or face military service. This order had a large impact on both locally born men who had been raised around English-speaking people and their fathers who were stillborn into poverty at that time; many men chose instead to stay behind and fight for their country rather than leave their families behind. Many Nashua residents also enlisted during this time including Samuel Adams Sr., future President John Adams' father-in-law; Amos Kendall; Increase Mather; Ebenezer Chauncy; Jabez Manchester; Jonathan Trumbull; Daniel Webster; Obadiah Ariel! Many early settlers brought with them skills they could use when they arrived such as carpentry, masonry, farming, trade goods such as cloths and guns, but soon enough many new skills became needed too due to changes in technology which led to increased production opportunities outside England which then opened up more job markets for those skilled workers (Fletcher). As industries grew more numerous so did competition among companies for workers which led some companies like Phillips & Company (a shipping company) to outsource work while others started unions to protect their workers rights (Moses). There also emerged a new type of businessman called entrepreneur who took advantage of technological advancements like steamboats which allowed him/herto transport goods long distances quickly becoming one major force driving economic development across much of eastern North America during this time period (Portsmouth). In 1801 Nathaniel Hawthorne published his novel “The House Without A Key” about an American family moving from Concord MA back home after being discharged from Harper's Ferry VA due to religious beliefs (Hawthorne himself was born in Concord MA). This story examples how change can happen rapidly even though seemingly unrelated events may be happening simultaneously making it difficult for readers not only understanding history but predicting future trends ;) It has been said that Hawthorne based his characters partially upon himself self & his ancestors

Nashua, New Hampshire is a town in Union County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 5,468 at the 2010 census. Nashua is the county seat of Union County. The first known permanent settler in Nashua was Nicholas Botkin in 1799. In 1802, James Bowdoin settled here and soon developed a successful fur-trading business with his brother John. By 1810, Nashua had a population of 400 and was becoming an important transportation and commercial center for the region. In 1812, the town voted to become an incorporated village with a Mayor/Council system; however, this effort failed to gain traction and it reverted back to its previous form in 1816. In 1824–25, Nathaniel Hawthorne moved from Marblehead to Nashua and started the Hawthorne Mercantile Company which became one of the largest businesses in Jackson County for many years. In 1830–31 he built the first brick courthouse in what is now downtown Nashua on Park Street; until then all courts were held outdoors on small meadows near where today's State House stands. In 1861–62 (the same year as Boston), Union Castle was destroyed by Confederate forces during their attack on Fort Donelson; however local residents rebuilt it quickly using local materials and labor under new leadership including John Starkweather who served as mayor from 1865 until his death in 1870 During World War I (1914-1918), much of Manchester's production went into making munitions at nearby Willingboro Arsenal while Nashua produced munitions itself at its Armory Square Factory; both factories closed after World War II but are still standing as tourist attractions today In 1924- 1925 two brothers named Edward Aiken founded Aiken & Sons department stores which grew rapidly throughout Northeastern America before becoming Macy's biggest competitor internationally before merging with Jopers Incorporated in 1986 In 1951-1952 four students from Norwich University formed NHAU (New Hampshire Alliance for Housing) which became one of the most influential housing organizations nationally before disbanding following the recession of that decade Today Nashuanians enjoy a diverse economy based upon tourism, manufacturing and service industries as well as agriculture - major crops include potatoes, beans and wheat
