In Nashua, New Hampshire, there are many businesses that provide optical accessories. These businesses include store fronts and storefronts, as well as standalone businesses. The history of these businesses in Nashua goes back to the 1800s when optical equipment was first invented. In 1871, a company called The Nashua Observer started business selling glass photographic plates. This company continued to operate until the early 1900s. From 1901-1905, a business called The Nashua Camera Company operated in the same building where The Nashua Observer still operates today. This business provided photography supplies and services to local residents in the town of Nashua. Later on, another business called The Empire Camera Company opened up shop in 1906 within the limits of modern-day Nashua. This company became responsible for providing photography services throughout much of New Hampshire and eastern Massachusetts. With the invention of film photography in 1912, these two companies ceased operations completely. However, one small business continued to operate until around 1938: The Jeweler’s Shop at 345 Main Street in downtown Nashua was run by Julius Kappler for almost fifty years! At this time, it was one of only a few stores remaining that sold both photochrome prints (made from transparency sheets) and motion picture film! During World War II, Kappler decided to sell his store all together and close it down due to wartime rationing; however, he reopened it just after the war ended with new inventory and reduced prices! By 1951-1952, all but three of the original Nishuan Optical Supply Company storefronts had closed their doors; however, they reopened briefly before going out of business again around 1957 or 1958 altogether! Nashua was originally called Pequot because of its location on the Pequot River. The original residents of Nashua were English settlers who arrived during the early part of the Revolutionary War. The town achieved notoriety in 1813 when General George Washington visited Nashua and ordered all troops to leave the town due to its high population of Native Americans who had gathered there for homage to their chief, William Henry Harrison. In 1824, only 36 years after it's founding, Nashua became part of Massachusetts as a result of the Adams-Onis Treaty which ended the American Revolution. As part of Massachusetts, Nashua joined other towns in forming what is now NH’s second most populous municipality. In 1907, NH’s first zoning ordinance allowed for industrial development within limits set by Township Commissioners. This led to an increase in manufacturing businesses in Nashua over time and has continued to this day contribute significantly to its economy
