Gun protection history in Nashua, New Hampshire began with the first firearms being brought to the town in 1768. The town was founded on a small island in the river and as a result, there were few means of defending themselves from attack. As gun ownership increased, so did the need for gun protectors. In 1813, Captain John Gorham established Fort Gorham on the mainland to provide security for the town. The fortifications were replaced by more recent positions in 1856 and 1870. Nashua experienced several massacres during its early years as a settlement. One such massacre took place on October 25, 1769 when Nathaniel Parker killed six people and injured four others at Fort Parker. The town was renamed Nashua after General George Washington arrived here on July 4, 1775. He called it "Nashua because there is no other place where he could have been safe." After his victory over British forces at Saratoga, Washington ordered all firearms to be destroyed within 24 hours or they would be given back to their owners! This act created an outcry amonggunowners who argued that these weapons should not be handed down through inheritance but instead should be kept accessible for use by those who needed them most. Afterward, much effort was put into improving fire control systems withinFort Gorham; however, this also resulted in numerous injuries occurring due to gunfire outside the fortifications itself rather than inside them which caused concerns about potential breaches that could occur if unauthorized personnel were allowed access to military weaponryues inside civilian areas...This lack of firepower effectively protected Nashuanians from any further terrorist assaults until 1865 when Union general Ulysses S Grant visited Nashua and implemented new regulations limitingfirepower within civilian areas following series of bombings across New England perpetrated by Confederate troops underthe leadership of Robert E Lee... subsequent attacks against civilians Spearheaded By Virginians resulted in multiple fatalities both nationally & locally before finally ceasing operations in December 1865 During World War II (1939-1945), guns continued being used extensively withinNew Hampshire towns & villages although there was some experimentation with airguns beginning around 1941… Gun Owners Associations (GOAs) continued playing an important role networking with other gun enthusiasts/rights advocates (& members thereof) leading up to & including WWII’s immediate aftermath… GOAs helped push through state & federal legislation regulating handguns (& pistols generally) post-war; along with continuing public education efforts resulting In decreased crime rates overall statewide thru late ‘50s & early ’60s [1]
