Nashua, New Hampshire is home to the world's oldest gun mag, The Nashua Rifle and Pistol Club. Founded in 1868, the club has been meeting monthly since then to keep track of firearms and ammunition. In 1907, The Nashua Rifle and Pistol Club became the first gun club in New Hampshire to offer instruction for adults. Today, the club offers a wide range of firearms instruction from beginner level handgun shooting to advanced marksmanship courses. In addition to its firearm education program, The Nashua Rifle and Pistol Club also publishes a monthly magazine called "The Gun". This magazine was started in 1902 by representatives from different rifle and pistol clubs in town. Since then, "The Gun" has become one of the most influential publications in New Hampshire for guns and knife collecting alike. Each month, "The Gun" features articles about new products or events related to firearms or knife culture. In recent years, "TheGun" has even begun publishing advertisements featuring new handguns and rifles being offered by dealers in town. Today, there are over 1,500 member clubs across America that meet quarterly or more often to discuss all things related to Firearms & Ammunition (F&A). Nashua is home to Northern Berkshire Community College and Nashua Valley Regional Hospital. The name "Nashua" likely comes from Indian Chief Mahican's location on NH 26 about three miles (5 km) east of present-day Nashua. Englishman John Smith discovered the area in 1609 during his exploration of what is now Vermont and named it for him. In 1764, George Washington passed through this area on his way from Boston to Portsmouth on NH 4. He changed the spelling of Nashua to Nantucket due to difficulties with finding a more accurate pronunciation of that name. In 1805, Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote an account of his visit to Great Britain called "A Tale Of Two Cities". The book has been reprinted many times and its title has been variously changed (e.g., 'The Marble Faire'). Hawthorne spent two weeks in Cambridge after leaving London and stopped at Nashua while he was therecrossingNH 27 northwest of present-day Nashua into Massachusetts; he had heard that this region had fine marble which could be bought there inexpensively. Hawthorne also visited Manchester, NH (), Walthamstow, MA ()()(), Ipswich - where he met General Francis Marion ()()()(), Martha ();()()) who became his love interest (), and Lowell (). While living in Concord he met Annanetta Emerson (). He returned via Lowell ()()()) back overland to Boston where he arrived on July 24th 1806 just before General John Burgoyne surrendered at Saratoga Springs (). His trip across country was documented by Ezra Pound who published it as “New England”:— A Report Upon The United States And Canada (Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company [1890]), pp 60 ff.. According to historian James Atherton writing for "Penguin Books", “It would have been impossible for Hawthorne not to have noticed something special about different kinds of soil hereabouts – something that made this part so biologically productive – but until recently no one really knew what it was’’ (p 108). After spending time dining with first lady Abigail Adams at her husband’s house near Watertown (), Hawthorne traveled northeast along NH 3 past Auburn VT ()(): At Auburn we reached a small stream called Little Roundabout which flows out into the Connecticut River opposite Norwich (). Here Hawthorne met Major David Wilmot (), Captains Benjamin Franklin Warren & Richard Stockbridge (), Samuel Adams Marcy (), Lucy Stone ({}, 1819-1893), Jared Sparks (<=>)). From Norwich they continued northeast past Westfield MA ())(): There they took advantage of an opportunity offered by heavy rains coming downslope onto their wagon road which diverted water away from Norwich Lake (). They reached Bridgeport CT ())): Here they dined with Govt officials including Timothy Pickering ();())()(). From Bridgeport they continued eastward past Derby CT ())(): There they camped out near Wethersfield CT ())(): On January 5th 1797John Thornton led a detachment under Colonel John Starkweather against Benedict Arnold inside Northampton Heights [](). US forces began besieging Northampton Heights on January 7th when Thornton made contact with them]].

Nashua was founded in 1799 by colonists from Rhode Island and named for General John Nash who fought in the American Revolution. The first post office in Nashua was established on July 15, 1800. The town was organized as a village on February 14, 1801. On July 4, 1803, the town became a incorporated municipality with a population of 569. On January 16th of each year since its incorporation it celebrates "Nashuafest." In 1870-71 there were 8 churches and over 20 ministers living in Nashua; by 1910 that number had dropped to 6 churches and only 2 ministers left On October 25th of each year since its incorporation (1960), Nashua celebrates "Nashuapark" or "Festival Park". It is an open-air recreation area located near downtown that includes gardens filled with trees and plants dating back to colonial times as well as art galleries and playgrounds for children. There are also several small businesses located around this park which serve local residents and tourists alike during the festival period including food vendors lining up along one side of the park while guitars or other instruments are set up along another side facing into Center Street where live music takes place intermittently throughout the day
