The town also became home to America’s first high school (Fenway High School) in 1892 and built America’s second largest shopping mall (The Mall at Fenway) in 1967. During World War II, Nashua played an important role in providing food for Allied troops stationed along coastal Maine and NH shores; manufacturing munitions including aircraft parts; harbor operations; air traffic control; troop training; communications services; facilities maintenance; education support; post-war rehabilitation; and civilian sector employment opportunities for local residents both within their own community and across New England aided by federal wartime programs such as WACS (Women Army Corps). In recent years, large Urban Renewal initiatives have been undertaken throughout downtown Nashua Downtown Area – resulting in new housing developments such as Manchester Placefront Village®, Middlesex Commons®, spinoff projects from Midtown Plaza®,[and] Northgate Residential Development® . These endeavors have helped revitalize downtown areas adjacent to I-93/I-495 Corridor linking Boston,[Manchester], Hartford,[New Haven], Lebanon[ Lebanon],[Worcester], Manchester,[Boston],[Brooklyn] And Providence.[Providence]. Additionally, several recently completed mixed use projects located around central business district [CBD] consisting of office buildings/retail space/residential units are expected to create thousands[of] jobs over short term period
Nashua is a town in New Hampshire and the county seat of Nashua County. The population was 25,898 at the 2010 census. Nashua was founded in 1788 by Puritan settlers from Massachusetts as a small village on the Susquehanna River. It grew rapidly due to its strategic location on the route between Boston and Albany, New York and its easy access to marketplaces and waterways. The town's success led to an annexation of neighboring Whitman in 1801, giving Nashua a total population of over 50,000 by 1840. In 1868, the town became one of eighteen towns in New Hampshire that joined together to form the Granite State Federation. The first post office in Nashua was established in 1788; it closed in 1855. The current post office building was built in 1898 and serves as the town's primary government center. Nashua has two high schools: Nashua High School (established in 1870) and Webster Academy (established in 1907). The Granite State University campus is located just outside of town near Logan Boulevard and Elm Street.
