There has been a gun target history in Manchester, New Hampshire for over 100 years. The first firearms target in Manchester was erected on the corner of High and Market Streets in 1875 by George H. White. White's targets were used to teach children the art of shooting at targets. In 1907, Manchester began hosting its own annual "gun show" which became an important event in the community. This event featured local manufacturers and sellers as well as demonstrations by experienced shooters from around the country. In 1912, a new Target & Gun Club was founded in Manchester and it soon became one of the most popular target ranges in New Hampshire. The club enjoyed success until World War II when it was forced to close due to wartime restrictions on ammunition sales. It reopened after the war but quickly disbanded again because of dwindling membership dues and lack of interest from other communities across New Hampshire. The club finally dissolved once more in the early 1970s when technological advances made traditional firearms targets obsolete.
