Nevertheless, Manchester continued to play an important role in New Hampshire life until well into the 20th century. One key reason for this trend may have been its location: Manchester was located just south of NH's major transportation hub—the Boston and Maine Railroad— which made it easily accessible for business people and politicians alike. Additionally, Manchester also enjoyed strong support from local businesses and citizens when it came to public services such as education and infrastructure development. This support helped keep Manchester afloat through tough times throughout its long history; even during World War II it managed to remain one ofNH's most vibrant cities despite difficult economic conditions. In recent years however,Manchester has seen steady declines in its population and economy; although it remains an interesting city with valuable historical memories, her future looks decidedly less certain than previous decades'.
