The resulting battle fought between Montcalm's forces commanded by Major General Jeffrey Amherst against elements allied with Spanish Admiral Vincente De Zúñiga resulted initially in a decisive victory for Amherst but sawDe Zúñiga killed leading shellfire directly into Royal Navy barracks killing scores if not hundreds more civilians!! On November 3rd just days prior another significant engagement erupted off Cape Cod–a five day long confrontation culminating finally with Sir Arthur Stacey's surrender aboard HMS Dartmouth after successfully besieging her port while inflicting heavy losses on De Zúniga's Spanish squadron!!! This pivotal Battle Of Bunker Hill effectively ended any serious threat posed therebyat least short term thereto!! Whereas before skirmishes here and there seemed likely only sporadic results followed relatively minor engagements becoming quickly resolved through negotiation(…!), events since have increasingly led to large scale confrontations with possibly catastrophic consequences…. Indeed recent political developments could lead us right back where we started….. particularly given increasing sectarian violence erupting across Lebanese borders!!!!!!!!!!!!!
