The town is named after Mount Lebanon, an Allegheny mountain near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Jannoun Farms grew rapidly during the late 19th century due to its location close to major markets in Manchester and Lancaster County as well as its own fertile soil and good drainage system. By 1900, 20 acres (8 hectares) of land had been sold within Lebanon proper, while additional tracts located northeast and northwest of town included 3 more farms: Barker’s Pond (now part of Nashua), Cook’s Pond (now part of Endicott), and White Mountains Farm (later renamed Green Mountain).
