Laconia is located on the eastern border of Manchester and is adjacent to Goffstown and Exeter. Laconia was platted in 1769 by Colonel John Sullivan, who named it for his home in Greece where he had been stationed in 1758 during the Seven Years' War. It became an incorporated town on April 13, 1854. The first post office was established at Laconia on July 5, 1824. The town has undergone various name changes over the years, including Lanton (1854-60), Lebanon (1860-64), Lehigh Valley (1964-68), and eventually its current name - after John Hickey Lacy Jr., one of its original settlers and a key figure in developing what would become Newton County - Laconia on November 3, 1870.
