The town was named for Mr. Lacy who donated land for the town site and built the first school house in 1825. Laconia became an incorporated village on July 1, 1951. On December 1, 1957, it merged with Carlisle to form the present day Concord-Carlisle MSA
Laconia was founded in 1768 by Captain John Trumbull. The town received its charter from the New Hampshire Legislature in 1792. Laconia became a part of the United States in 1801.
