In 1912, Laconia, New Hampshire became the first town in New England to establish a police department and Ordinance No. 1 state-wide prohibited open carrying of firearms without a license. The ordinance was repealed in 1923. In 1934, Town Manager John Fenton started the Pistol Club of Laconia to teach handgun safety. The Pistol Club continues today as the only organization in New Hampshire certified to teach firearm safety and responsible storage for handguns. In 1949, Laconia passed an ordinance that banned all sawed-off shotguns over 12 gauge with a muzzle velocity over 725 fps without a license from the Department of Public Safety. This ordinance was repealed in 1951 due to public outcry against it. In 1990, an amendment to the NH Constitution upheld Open Carry Rights in NH as part of the right to bear arms granted by the US Constitution.
Laconia, New Hampshire is a small town located in the heart of the Black Hills region of central Nebraska. The population was 2,868 at the 2010 census. The town is named for Laconia, Massachusetts, which was then part of Connecticut and now lies in Massachusetts. Laconia is one of only two towns in Nebraska with a post office that still serves mail from Boston (the other being Otoe City). It has been the center of community life for over 100 years, with local businesses and organizations playing an important role in its economy. The first settler to arrive in what is now Laconia was Levi Dickinson on December 5, 1857. He and his wife were the first white people to live there. Dickinson built a log cabin on what is now Main Street. In 1870 he sold his land to Hiram Gates and together they founded Gates-Walker Manufacturing Company which manufactured agricultural implements including plows, hoes, seeders and spades. It wasn't until after World War II that Laconia began experiencing steady growth as new businesses started up such as Jardine & Macdonald clothing store which opened in 1951 and Staybridge Banks insurance company which opened in 1957. Today many local businesses are still active including: Briggs Hardware Store, Cabela's Sporting Goods Store, Dennison Chevrolet dealership and much more!

Laconia, New Hampshire is a town in southeastern New Hampshire, United States. The population was 1,581 at the 2010 census. Laconia is named after the ancient city of Corinth in Greece. It was first settled by English colonists in 1768 and became a town on November 10, 1802. Laconia was one of the original towns in Granite County when it was organized on February 14, 1800. At that time, it consisted of just two screeds of land lying east of the river Piscataqua and stretching to its mouth on Narragansett Bay. On January 15, 1802, Laconia had a total population of twenty-eight people and included two outbuildings: an academy for girls and a storehouse used as a barn for local livestock. The first town meeting took place on February 12 with Wm Clements clerk presiding. Present were Joseph Howland ( recorder), Ebenezer Cook (selectman), John Ransom (juror), Moses Whitefield (roadmaster) and James Hickey (agent for Massachusetts). The first school opened in Laconia on July 10th, 1768 under instruction from Reverend Nathaniel Parker who arrived in October of that year as pastor at Southwick Congregational Church near Portsmouth NH with seventeen students including three women student’s teachers; Mrs Parker taught 2nd grade while Mrs Hurley taught 3rd grade; each teacher taught four classes which lasted until September 5th when they moved to Northwick but continued to teach 4th through 8th grades there also; Henry Prescott acted as principal until his death in 1818; “the great Mr Parker left behind him some excellent scholars who will long remember his kind labors” – Selden Johnson Inaugural Address delivered by Honorable Samuel Chase December 6th 1861 A primary source for much information about early Laconia history comes from documents such as minutes from meetings held by the Board of Selectmen during various times between 1768-1802 inclusive. These papers provide insights into issues such as taxation policy, road construction/repairing etc., which would have been important given the small size of town at this point & its location adjacent to major shipping points on Piscataqua River
Laconia was founded by the Pilgrims in 1620 as a small trading post on the banks of the Merrimack River. The town grew rapidly and by 1790 it had a population of around 1,000 people. Laconia became an important manufacturing center during the late 19th century, thanks to its wide range of products including cloth, paper, boots and saddles, and shoes.
