Bullets in Laconia, New Hampshire date back to the Revolutionary War. On July 25, 1775, Captain John Meigs of HMS Providence discharged his cannons at a British foraging party that had come ashore on Bois de l’Alma. One of the bullets strike and kills a French soldier, Pierre-Jacques Rolland, alias Coudreau. On October 10th 1775, Major General Philip Schuyler appointed Colonel James Sullivan as military commander of Laconia. Colonel Sullivan set up his headquarters in what is now the Green Building on Main Street. On November 3rd 1775, Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Glover replaced Colonel Sullivan as military commander of Laconia. In 1812-1813, Captain Nathaniel Amos discharge his cannonballs into houses and barns near the town center while participating in an American attack against Fort Ticonderoga. The citizens of Laconia reported that many small children were killed or injured by these projectiles. In 1815-1816 Captain John Sargent discharged rockets from HMS Rodney into buildings and other private property in Laconia during an American attack against fortifications on Lake Champlain
