Laconia, New Hampshire is a small town in the town of Goffstown, New Hampshire. The population was 553 at the 2010 census. Laconia is located on Route 127 and is part of the White Mountains National Forest. Laconia was first settled in 1759 by John Morse and his family. The name "Laconia" comes from an old Indian word meaning "place where there are no trees." In 1802, the town's first post office was established. Laconia grew rapidly during the early 1800s due to its location between two major trade routes: the Great Lakes and Boston-New York City. By 1820, Laconia had a sawmill, grist mill, flour mill, cheese factory and several stores. In 1826, Laconia became home to America's first private academy for girls—the Academy of Learning for Girls—founded by Olive Bates (later Mrs. Everett). In 1832, Laconia voted to become a city; it did not achieve this until 1862 when it petitioned for recognition as an independent village under the new system of government that allowed municipalities more autonomy. As a city, Laconia experienced rapid growth throughout most of the 19th century; however, it steadily declined in population throughout much of the 20th century due to various factors such as economic decline and loss of jobs in surrounding townships. With only 553 residents according to the 2010 census estimates,[1] little evidence exists suggest that Laconia has any real remaining vitality or significance outside its community watchdog role within Goffstown itself over time – though occasional events do take place here (e.g., their annual Pumpkinfest Parade), making it worth checking out if you're visiting Goffstown during any given year!

The name of the town comes from two small lakes that lie near its center- Laconia and Concord. Laconia was one of the original towns in Barnstead County. In 1838 it became a part of Manchester and had a population of 1,500 people. The first post office in Laconia was established on December 5, 1830 by George Peele with the name Brownsville. On July 10, 1851 it changed its name to Laconia and remained so until 1951 when it became Barnstead again
