In 1875, the town of Laconia incorporation was granted and Sheppard’s shop became its first business. In 1917, Sheppard sold his business to J.B. Browning Company for $150,000 cash. The company’s first factory was built in Laconia and produced firearms until 1939 when it moved to Springfield MA.

According to the 2016 American Community Survey estimates, 76% of residents identify themselves as white Protestant; 14% identify themselves as Catholic; 3% identify themselves as black or African American; 1% identify themselves as Jewish; 0% identify themselves as Hindu or Buddhist; and less than 1% each identifies himself/herself with any other religion

Laconia, New Hampshire is a town in Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. Laconia is located in the eastern part of the county and on the banks of the Piscataqua River. It was one of five settlements founded by Congregational missionaries who sailed from Plymouth Colony to this area in 1637. The other four were Northampton (1638), Concord (1639), unincorporated settlement called "Southwick" (1704) and Westfield (1712). Laconia was first settled by English colonists as an agricultural community on the east side of Piscataqua River among saltpeter and lead mines that had been developed since 1620 as part of what became New Hampshire. On October 8, 1724, George Washington wrote to his cousin Martha Washington about his view of "a perfect society without taxation or government". He recommended that all men be taxed equally with respect to their landed estates but added: "the people hereabouts do not differ so much from us as they do in other parts of America; they are contented with a little local government." In 1764-65, England's Parliament passed an act granting Massachusetts Bay Colony exclusive rights over navigation on the river between Boston and Portsmouth. This act divided New England into two parties - those favoring royal rule through MA and those preferring independence under Nathanael Greene - which led to open warfare between these factions until 1768 when British troops marched into Concord under General John Burgoyne and defeated the forces of tyrants Philipsburg and Duncombe for control over much ofNew England. Although Laconia never achieved independence from Great Britain it did gain its own school board, militia regimentation glandry system separate from NH state Militia system while maintaining some ties thereto during Revolution period due to shared history & culture
