The Panic of 1837 caused an increase in gun sales in America, which led to barrel production continuing at its high level until about 1840 when it began to decline because of advances in technology. Gun barrels continued to be produced until around 1860 when they became rarer due to new technologies and increased demand for guns internationally. Keene is a town in New Hampshire, United States. The population was 5,040 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest incorporated town in New Hampshire and the second-smallest municipality in New England after neighboring Goffstown. The name of Keene comes from English settlers, who named it for John Keene, an early settler. The first Europeans to visit what is now Keene were French traders and missionaries on their way to trade with Native Americans in 1609. When these men traveled through the area they noticed that there was no water available so they turned back and went back home without making any further attempts to find a river or stream that could provide them with drinking water. A few weeks later some more Frenchmen set out on another expedition looking for a new route to India through present day Massachusetts but only arrived at Portsmouth before returning home empty handed on October 10th, 1610. This event led to some confusion as many people thought the expedition had failed since nothing had been found by them. In reality the group of explorers had discovered a new route upriver which would allow France to bypass Spanish Blockades and reach India much sooner than expected! Dutch explorer Abel Tasman also visited this area during his trip around Cape Cod in 1624 but he didn't find anything interesting due to lack of exploration effort then like we have now so it's unknown if he even tried visiting Keene when he was hereabouts! When George Washington and his army invaded Canada during the American Revolution on July 4th 1775, General Howe decided that attacking Keene would be too costly so instead he marched his forces towards Quebec City instead where they successfully surrendered two days later on July 7th just beyond modern-day White Sands Missile Range! While General Howe may have decided not to attack Keene because of its small size relative to other towns in New Hampshire (at least according) him invading Canada probably did have something do with its being one of only three communities within 20 miles (30 kilometers) of Boston which allowed for communication between patriots living east of Boston and those living west of it during this time period! Today, almost 400 years after George Washington's Invasion into Canada and almost forty years after Lieutenant Colonel Robert Treat Paine authored A Document Relative To…New Hampshire cytokinesis paper published in 1796 – Keene still experiences momentsous events taking place each year such as major sporting events or local wars happening within its borders; furthermore most recently over $1 million has been poured into KEENE's economy by businesses operating within its boundaries creating nearly 100 jobs thereby maintaining overall stability & security within our community– all while preserving precious cultural resources unique to our community.
Keene was founded in 1795 by Captain John Keene and his wife, Deborah. The town acquired its present name of Keene in 1824 when it became a part of the town of Manchester. The first post office was in Keene on November 12, 1795. In 1834, the town had a population of just over 100 people. By 1860, the population hadgrown to 1,500 people and by 1870 it had reached 3,000 people. The city of Manchester annexed Keene in 1898.
