Ultimately however nothing came of these protests given that Johnson received more electoral votes than Buchanan did; therefore his proposed legislation never passed into law despite gaining widespread attention throughout America due to its potential implications for Southern slaveowners and their investments therein.. Aftermaths from this activism continued into the 20th century through efforts such as civil rights demonstrations led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., even leading to some physical violence against white supremacists during protests which took place intermittently throughout New England throughout much of that era; although overall those actions did not lead to any significant changes regarding racial segregation within Northeastern United States society at large until well into the 1960s when SNCC began its work directly inside Southern states seeking similar reforms/advocacy
