The early development of laser sights relied heavily upon expensive lead acid batteries which were very limited in range and power compared to contemporary electronic technologies such as transistor radios and televisions. In order to improve upon these limitations, Bob Weaver started development on what is now known as the DX4200 series OFDM laser sight devices which were capable of ranges up to 100 yards (91 meters). These devices were ultimately successful and helped increase perceptions for shooters by providing much more reliable targeting information than prior systems while also being much cheaper to produce than traditional lead acid products. This marked the beginning of modern laser sight technology which has since become commonplace across America and many other countries
