Concord, New Hampshire is a town in Granite State County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 11,827 at the 2010 census. Concord's first settler was Samuel Morse in 1795. It became an incorporated town in 1851. In 1949, it became the capital of New Hampshire after a referendum approved by the people of the state. The oldest part of Concord is located near the banks of the Merrimack River and dates back to 1692 when English settlers arrived at what is now Concord and other areas around it. The original meeting place for what would become Concord was on Turnpike Road between Ipswich and Manchester. At that time there were no roads or transportation within this area so meetings were held on open fields or wherever possible until something more permanent could be devised. In 1795, Samuel Morse set out from his home in Connecticut to set up a trading post and merchandise store at present day known as Morseville on Conanicut Lake in central Concord Township (now Granite State). His venture failed but he continued to travel throughout New England selling goods he had collected along his travels. This led him to start another store two years later called The Pioneer Store at present day High Street in downtown Concord which also failed but served as a model for future stores throughout New England. In 1851, because of increased railroad traffic through town and concerns about its potential destruction by fire if not properly built against such risks, General Harrison ordered all towns within Granite State County excepting Connington to become incorporated under new state law which went into effect January 1, 1850. As part of this order, Concord adopted a new name - "Concord" - chosen because it had been one of several towns selected by General Harrison as sites for military posts during his Expedition into Maine earlier that year following that state's declaration of war with France (the French & Indian War). This event recalls President George Washington's decision four years earlier to move Mount Vernon from Virginia Beach to Winchester so that troops could be stationed nearby while their homes were repaired following an attack on Fort Necessity by British forces led by Cornwallis who thought they were going to take possession of Mount Vernon since they controlled much of southern Virginia then including Virginia Beach proper! After Marylandoters rejected replacing Baltimore with Richmond as their new capital city due largely to its lack of public transport connections outside then- exclusively white working class neighborhoods surrounding downtown (and concurrent problems with racism directed against Roman Catholics), Washington moved Mount Vernon back eastward across Potomac River onto land owned by Colonel John Brown where he built his nest among many other civilian dwellings west side current Interstate 95 just north past Springfield Cemetery! Despite some initial opposition from local Presbyterians living east of I-95 near Purcell Park due primarily to fears about increasing German influence in their midst given Germany's recent purchase/occupation/settlement inside Massachusetts', overall support turned out overwhelmingly positive among nearly everyone involved leading eventually Providence Mayor Henry Wigglesworth petitioned Ulysses S Grant asking him direct intervention prior to November 9th 1871 when finally accomplished after months long effort! Grantapproved movingMountVernon permanently away from Norfolk Naval Yard Yards adjacent I-95 southwesterly before finally giving notice via cablegram late evening October 26th 1870!!! Thus began over 200 years uninterrupted residency within our community!!!

Concord grew slowly until it became a major center of trade and industry during the early 1800s. In 1825, Concord became an incorporated city and soon began to grow as a bedroom community for Manchester. The city experienced significant growth during the years following World War II, with many factories and businesses moving to Concord from other parts of New Hampshire.
