Concord, New Hampshire is a town in Merrimack County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 1,848 at the 2010 census. Concord is the county seat of Merrimack County. It is part of the Springfield, Massachusetts Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlement in what later became Concord was made on February 14, 1768 by Capt. John Hathorne and Lt. Govt., Nathanael Greene as part of the merger of seven townships into Merrimack County. The name "Concord" originated with General George Washington when he visited the area on October 16, 1775 during his march from Boston to Portsmouth to take possession of New Hampshire after its victory over British forces at Saratoga Springs and Battle of Bunker Hill. At that time there were no towns in this area other than Manchester and Goffstown; therefore General Washington named all these settlements after himself--George Washington's Headquarters (Concord), Mount Vernon (Goffstown), Valley Forge (Manchester), Newtown (Newton), Temple Israel (Westborough)--in order that they might form one consolidated community under his command which would share resources and protect itself against future Indian attacks. On July 10, 1800, Concord became a town thanks to acts passed by the General Court ofMerrimack County; however it did not become official until January 3rd 1802 due to lack of signatures from all but one inhabitant necessary for incorporation within two weeks following ratification by a vote at an election held on December 5th 1800. The vote represented an overwhelming majority among residents who voted against incorporation because they felt that it would be too close to Springfield where they lived & their businesses would be interfered with by new arrivals from Springfield who would want equal rights as townspeople despite being much poorer than them socially & politically speaking (& also because many people connected with Concord shipbuilding industry had settled in Plymouth Meeting since 1792). One reason why Concord did not join Springfield immediately was because some prominent citizens including Governor Jonathan Edwards saw fit to remain separately functioning as an unincorporated village known as Northampton until their own incorporation into Newton two years earlier & felt that merging with Concord would dilute their power & status quo thereby weakening their opposition to any moves towards becoming more integrated into larger communities throughout New England (& even potentially away from home). In addition many residents living near Boston objected strenuously to having their downtown streets renamed "Washington Street" after a general who had fought against them while living beyond rifle range& whose Monument still stands today several blocks west along Massachusetts Avenue just outside Northampton’s limits) In 1814 when war broke out between Great Britain & France Concord began supplying goods directly via sea rather than through Boston Decreasing shipping traffic allowed for better prices for goods coming into Boston so merchants in Concord decided to support war efforts financially instead& again this helped stimulate economic growth in Concord which continued until shortly before America's entry into World War I After America entered World War I service members moving back home found food supplies running low so they started smuggling goods across state lines trying not only to get enough food but also munitions needed for warfare which eventually caught up with them culminating in the 1918 Red Sox Nationally televised game at Fenway Park vs Philadelphia Phillies where cigarettes fraudulently were sold inside Fenway Park without proper stamps proving fakeRed Sox players received suspensions& fines while US military personnel using Fenway ParkTablets were taken without proper authorizations
