They elected to remain Neutral and this decision served as the basis for Concord's status as an agricultural center; until recently most residents have identified themselves as farmers rather than separatists or revolutionaries During World War II many people from Concord enlisted in the military or worked at factories located nearby; some still live within walking distance today After independence from Great Britain in 1807 Concord became part of new Granite State Confederation which lasted until 1892 when it merged into United States . The history of Concord can be traced back to several settlements that were located near today's downtown area: Blackstone Valley (now rocky Hillside), Littleton, Easton, Grantham and Northampton valleys (now Parkdale). In 1709, British traders reached this area after crossing the river Merrimack near present-day Goffstown. They traded with local natives for goods such as deer skins and breadfruit crops while also building roads and houses here. In 1769, Colonel John Stark received a land grant from King George II for his participation in the Boston Tea Party. At first he only possessed 5 acres (2 km²) of this tract but soon developed into one of Great Britain's leading merchants and investors in early colonies across North America. He donated additional land including what would later become Concord to establish what are now its major thoroughfares - Faneuil Hall Road (present day High Street), Market Street and Stockbridge Road - which facilitated commerce among these new settlements." He also built homes such as Haverhill House which still stands today on Broadway Avenue within walking distance of downtown Concord – now home to many restaurants and shops including Macy’s department store – during this time period." "Many early settlers came from England because they needed someplace to go after their ships were captured by American Revolutionary forces at sea." "After independence was achieved in 1776, many Tory British men who had served under Queen Anne decided not to stay behind in post-war North America so they sailed for Europe." "To commemorate their departure many streets were named after them – Captain John Stark Way ran down Broadwalk from Haverhill House all the way down Broadway until it crossed Interstate 95 just south of where I-95 meets UMass Amherst Campus today" . "Some people think that if General George Washington had known about Captain John Stark Way he may have honored him more than he did Continental Army officer Nathanael Greene"."
