Claremont is a small town in New Hampshire that has been served by the Claremont School District for over sixty years. The town is located on the banks of the Connecticut River, about twenty miles north of Concord and forty-five miles south of Manchester. The population of Claremont was 1,564 at the 2010 census. The first school in Claremont was built in 1836 bychardist Amos Kendall. In 1853, Reverend Jedediah Morse opened a Methodist church in Claremont and taught classes there until his death in 1865. The first public school in Claremont was built on Main Street in 1881. It was replaced by what is now called High School Annex #1 on Elm Street in 1916 when the original high school building became too small for the growing town. In 1954, Claremont voters approved a $10 million bond issue to build new schools and libraries within the district. The new schools were dedicated on October 10, 1957; they were named after Rear Admiral Chester Nimitz (1885-1959) and Mrs. Nimitz (1905-1978). Claremont Elementary School opened its doors to students on September 15, 1960; it was renamed Elisabeth Berenson Middle School after Mrs. Berenson's donation of land for the school system in 1962. On May 3, 1974, students walked out of their second grade class because they felt that their teacher did not reflect modern day American values accurately enough; this event is known as "The Blackout." After much effort from teachers and parents alike, control over student behavior returned to normal within two weeks following this incident. 2nd grade students held another walkout during lunchtime on February 11th against an increase proposed by Superintendent Driscoll which would have increased tuition rates for seniors without any corresponding increases for juniors or younger students cost effective alternative programs like art camp or music therapy offered free with no additional fees beyond those already associated with full time public education . This event also helped spur discussion about possible changes to future curriculum plans which ultimately led to revisions being made to all middle/highschool curriculums throughout New Hampshire . It wasn't until 1984 whenenny Aronson moved into a house across from High School Annex #1 & began teaching 2nd grade without incident before moving up through grades including Special Education services becoming Headmistress Of Hermitage Academy In 2002

The first settler in what is now Claremont was Gideon Knowles who purchased land from the local Indian tribe. In 1801, Captain John Claremont sold part of his holdings to Peterborough businessman Amos Kendall. In 1803, Captain John Claremont married fellow Portsmouth resident Esther Hawksworth and they moved to Claremont. Esther bore him two children-John and Mary-and started a small home business which she continued until her death in 1840. In 1814, captain John Clareont conveyed all his remaining holdings to Amos Kendall Jr., who also established businesses such as a grocery store and carpenter shop. The town's heyday came during the 19th century when it became an important center for religious services due to its location on Route 3A close to several major churches including Saint Anselm's Episcopal Church (founded 1796), First Baptist Church (founded 1805), and Methodist Episcopal Church (established 1830). However, with increasing economic development around Portsmouth and other nearby towns during this time period, Claremont experienced rapid decline beginning in the late 19th century. However, some things that have made Claremont unique include its large number of white residents who immigrated during this time period; its strong educational foundation including many prominent individuals such as Cyrus Harding (a signer of the Declaration of Independence) and Reverend Horace Mann; and its extensive agricultural production which helped make it one of New Hampshire's leading communities during this time period
