Claremont, New Hampshire is home to one of the oldest firearms training schools in the country. The school was founded in 1857 by Captain John S. Butler and his wife Charity as a place for men of skill in gunnery to learn. There have been many changes to the shooting community since then, but the school has always been a center for education and training in firearm safety. In 1903, Claremont became part of what is now Vermont as part of an effort to keep firearms safe throughout the state. In 1912, Claremont became part of New Hampshire and continued to be a center for education and training in firearm safety until it closed its doors in 1966 due to budget cuts. Today, there are still many shooters who come through Claremont Elementary School for instruction and training on all things related to firearms. There have been many shootings at Claremont Elementary School over the years, but none more than the tragedy that took place on December 14th, 2018. It was reported that 20-year old Nicholas Dworet had shot and killed five people before fatally shooting himself inside an elementary school in Parkland, Florida. The shooting at Claremont Elementary School was one of several high-profile shootings that took place during 2018; it remains one of the deadliest incidents ever inflicted on children within reach of gunfire. The first steps taken after this terrible event were quite significant; both New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu and Mayor Don Ness made public statements condemning Dworet’s actions. This action demonstrated how much importance New Hampshire placed onto preventing violence against innocent civilians; it also showed how serious gun violence could be when committed by someone under age 21 years old. This year has seen some really positive changes take place regarding gun violence specifically within our nation’s schools; we saw lawmakers pass bills making it harder for people with mental illness from owning guns (including those who have commit crimes), we saw governors sign into law measures designed towards increasing firearm safety among young people across all states (including my own State), and most importantly we saw kids get out there onto social media platforms like Instagram & Twitter & Facebook & Snapchat & YouTube & Twitch & Instagram again AND shoot up buses! We must continue working together as a nation toward creating safer environments where our children can learn self-defense skills without fear of gunfire coming their way

Claremont was founded in 1764 by Colonel John Clare as a trading post on the Waterville River. It became an incorporated town in 1847. The community of Claremont was named for Colonel John Clare and his wife Lady Sarah Childers-Clare. Claremont first had a Presbyterian church but it soon fell into disuse and closed in 1834. A new Presbyterian church was built in 1836 and served the community until 1959 when it burned down. Both bases were important during the war because they helped support Allied operations against Nazi Germany. In 1951, after years of discussion, Claremont voted to adopt a municipal form of government under which all residents would be represented through elected officials rather than via parish councils or village meetings as had been traditional since colonial times. This change led to much criticism from some residents who felt that their voice should not be heard above those of other citizens; however, it has been one of the most successful aspects of municipal governance in Claremon
