They were the first to sell such scopes to customers in Reno and other nearby communities. In 1924, Harry Fenton began selling his newly developed 3-inch tube scopes from his home in Sparks using a 6x42mm objective lens. He was soon joined by fellow salesman Rex Goodspeed who ran the business together until Goodspeed's death in 1942. The three founders of Rifle Scope Company shared the profits equally and continued to operate the business under their own names until 1951 when they sold it to Curt Wever & Co., Inc., an American company based in Omaha, Nebraska. During World War II, many Reno residents volunteered for military service and some were drafted into the armed forces; however, most of these men did not have access to proper rifle scopes or optics due to limited production resources at that time. In 1945, Wever & Co., Inc.'s president Frank Sperry decided to start production of sniper riflescope lenses using state-of-the art Bayer glass technology which he had obtained from Germany during World War II as part of an exchange program between U.S./Germany cooperation efforts (see also: GlassTechnology). This new technology allowed him to produce high quality rifle scopes with objectives up to 4 inch size without havingto use any magnification screws or adjustments on the telescope body thus making them more easy and convenient to use than earlier models employing similar design elements but with smaller objective lenses (see also: RifleScopeCompany). To date this is still one of the best designed rifle scopes ever produced!

In 1960, sparks merged with neighbouring Kingston to form what is now known as Kingston-Sparks Combined Statistical Area (CSSA). Today, Sparks remains an agricultural base with a small number of businesses providing services such as retail or services related to agriculture or natural resources outside of its core economic functions including healthcare and education
