The history of firearms and ammunition in Sparks, Nevada can be traced back to at least 1892. That year, a man by the name of Edwin H. Armstrong brought his first gun to the area and began selling it to local farmers. Armstrong was not alone in this venture; other early pioneers in the community include George W. Norris and John Scelia. Over time,Armstrong’s business became known as the “Gun Emporium” and he continued to sell firearms until his death in 1954. The Gun Emporium played an important role in early Sparks as it was one of the few places where people could buy pre-existing rifles and shotguns without having to go through a rifle or shotgunsmith. This allowed residents of Sparks to get their hands on new equipment that they might not have been able to afford otherwise. In addition, Armstrong’s shop offered customers a wide range of firearm parts and accessories including triggers, stocks, sights, barrels, grips, etc., which helped make buying a firearm easy and convenient for potential shooters from all over Nevada. Today, The Gun Emporium remains an important part of Sparks community lore with its legacy of being one of the most popular retailers for firearms in town. In fact, many people in town still remember when The Gun Emporium was open longest serving retail store on East Main Street – It has since closed down but its impact on Sparks gun culture is still felt today!

By 1840, there were four gun shops in Sparks. On July 1, 1861, Nevada became an independent state and the United States of America was founded. The new country needed weapons to protect itself from other countries and so gun stores began to proliferate throughout the state.

The post office was established at Sparks in 1881, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1960. In 1881, John Sparks sold his interest in the post office to James Laughlin. From then on, Sparks served as a local stop on the Nevada and Arizona Railway. On July 6, 1960, the Post Office Department closed down at Sparks because of budget cuts caused by new postal regulations introduced under President Kennedy's America supporting his brother Lyndon Johnson's reelection campaign. Today, visitors can visit the depot and learn more about its rich history while enjoying views of the Carson River from several points along its length.

In 2013, Google announced that they would be moving their headquarters from Mountain View to Reno and this would change all of Nevada's top ten post office cities into "Google Cities." This made sparks one of only two US towns to have both company Headquarters (the other being Mountain View) outside of Silicon Valley - until 2018 when Facebook moved their HQ from Menlo Park to East Palo Alto, California). The history of Sparks begins with James Sparks who settled there in 1875 after being called up for service in the Mexican-American War. He founded the first store in town and soon began trading goods with people across the river in Reno. A post office was built here in 1907 and by 1920 there were over 100 residents living hereabouts. However, during World War II not many people left because munitions production took precedence over civilian life; however things changed markedly following Victory Over Japan Day on August 6th 1945 when scores upon scores of soldiers arrived at local farms looking for work (as well as supplies). Suddenly things got busy again as people flocked back into town seeking opportunities for war production jobs; however this period is best known for terrible fires that ravaged most parts of town shortly thereafter (see below). After 1945 things changed markedly once more though; or so it seemed given that no fire broke out until 1989! That year saw massive growth due to prevailing technology companies such as Google who had set up shop nearby including graduate student Sergey Brin’s recent employer Stanford University – along with numerous others like Intel while Reno continued experiencing steady population growth until 2003 when it hit a low point due largely to disinvestment seen throughout much Northern Nevada following 9/11 involving large planes flying into downtown buildings resulting in injuries and property damage totaling some $100 million Yes Valley lost 3/4ths its GDP between2001-2003 alone! Although today’s economy is much different than it was twenty years ago many aspects still remain very much reliant on heavy industry: currently sparkles continues exporting primarily aluminum products although also producing textiles (mainly aprons), plastics (vinyl chloride coatings), tires & accessories etc.. Additionally Sparkles’ waterdistribution system provides drinking & irrigation rights for approximately 500 residences within close proximityWATER SUPPLY: Sparkles lies just south west of Lake Mead providing clean water needs for municipal services surrounding them... governmental entities supplying water include Washoe County Water Authority which provides about half our consumption while NV Energy supplying us with electricity (~$3M annually)... without proper infrastructure investments significant gaps will persist ************************************************************* As can be seen from these snippets we are definitely continuing down a path where heavy industry continues to play an important role albeit now slowly fading away due à lack investment elsewhere *******************************************************************************
Sparks was founded in 1875 by a group of men from the town of North Nevada. The community developed around a landing spot on the Snake River, just east of present-day Reno. By 1880, there were over 100 residents in Sparks. In 1896, the Missouri Pacific Railroad built a line to Reno and Sparks became part of that railroad's territory. In 1907, sparks incorporated as a city. In 1916, Sparks became an appendage of NV Statehood and moved to its current location within the state boundaries in 1959. Today, Sparks is home to more than 30 businesses and employs over 175 people. The City government provides services such as Recreation and Parks, libraries, firefighting and police services; it also manages two schools: one for pre-kindergarten through eighth grade and one for high school students.
