Sparks was founded in 1887 by George Waddington and his wife Emma. The town first grew to over 2,000 people when it annexed other townships in 1907. In 1951, Sparks became an unincorporated community within the city of Reno. In 1970, Sparks incorporated as a full town with a population of over 5,000 people. Today, Sparks is one of the most vibrant communities in Northern Nevada and home to many businesses and organizations that contribute to its unique culture and economy. The history of Sparks begins with George Waddington who settled there in 1887 after moving from Illinois where he had been a successful surveyor. He arrived with his family on horseback from Oregon and homesteaded what is now known as east side Road near present day Walmart Drive in what is today's downtown district of Sparks. His original home still stands today across from the old post office building which served as both his family's residence and their business headquarters until 1902 when they moved into their current location oncurrent site of City Hall which they purchased for $5 per acre (the equivalent of $126,000 at 2006 prices). In 1907, following the annexation of other townships within Reno by Sparks(), the community achieved its current size with 3 thousand residents living in 188 homes scattered throughout 6 neighborhoods: Main Street (now North First Street), South First Street (now East Second Street), West Third Street (now Northwest Fourth Streets), North Fourth Street (now Northeast Third Streets) and northeast corner lot lot #1 now known as Draper Park (). This growth led to increased development around the town center including erection of several large churches/temples such as First Methodist Episcopal Church on south side Road between East Second Boulevard & East Third Avenue; Angel Catholic Cathedral on north side Road between West Third Boulevard & Northwest Fourth Streets; Fowler United Methodist Church on northwest corner lot #1 between Draper Park & Northwest Fourth Streets; St John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church located just north-west off Interstate 40 exit 221B off I-88 exit 10B onto I-80 about halfway into Reno proper; Presbyterian church located just east off Washoe Avenue off Pioneer Parkway outside city limits - this church began construction shortly before tornado destroyed much larger structure inside city limits during outbreak occasioning local media attention during week ending October 15th EF5 tornado – all six neighborhood churches were rebuilt subsequent to storm but remained standing until 2002 when all were demolished due To fire damage caused by lightning strike while still standing With such rapid growth came corresponding problems that continue to be faced by residents even today including high levels OF traffic congestion along bustling streets leading up towards downtown area attracting tourists not only for shopping but also restaurants since few locals could afford affordable housing option close enough so visitors could enjoy quality dining without having TO leave their neighborhood or risk getting lost among rapidly changing surroundings also impacting outdoor activities enjoyed by locals including hiking/ biking trails running through neighboring communities en route backpacking etc., some solutions offered decades ago include higher taxes resulting in less available money for necessary repairs others like increasing availability hours for services granted thru out entire day allowing more time for citizen interaction instead Of being gridlocked late at night pushing citizens out onto highways
