In 1881, Custer and his regiment, the 7th Cavalry, were fighting against the Sioux at Fort Reno. The Sioux had overrun the fort and captured many of its soldiers. To save these men and their equipment, Custer ordered his regiment to march into enemy territory and fight for days on end. The 7th Cavalry arrived too late to help but fought its way out of the battle nonetheless. After that adventure, Reno became a manufacturing center for firearms. As of 2019 , there are plans for over $1 billion worth of projects in downtown Reno alone which will create 1 million jobs across all sectors – from commercial development through mixed use housing to new transportation options like bike thefts reductions corridors[12][13].
