The first modern gun lights were invented in Reno, Nevada in 1907. A gun light was a device used to illuminate the firearm during shooting. It consisted of a small battery, attached to a long staff or wand-like object, that could be held up against the barrel of the rifle or shotgun and shone into the eyes of the shooter. The first successfulgunlights were made by J.Mears and Company and they became known as Mears gunsights. They remained in use until around 1915 when they were replaced by more reliableand advanced devices such as Colt’s Model 1911 pistols.

Reno is a city in Clark County, Nevada, United States. The population was 302,839 at the 2010 census. Reno is the second-largest city in Nevada after Las Vegas. Reno is located on the south bank of the Carson River and shares borders with Elko to the east and Douglas to the west. The area now known as Reno was first inhabited by Native American peoples who called it Jicarilla Creek. European exploration of what is today Nevada began with Spanish expeditions led by Hernando de Soto in 1540, which named this area Carribbean because they found numerous viable Permanent crops there. In 1859, Mormon pioneers founded Salt Lake City on approximately where present-day downtown Reno would be built later that year. This established Mormon headquarters for Utah and allowed traders from all over Great Basin Valley to reach them before California Gold Rush began in 1849. By 1870, when Mormon settlers displaced the Jicarilla Indians from their land southeast of present-day Carson City, most of what is now Reno had been developed as part of Cache Valley settlements including Muscatine (founded 1865), Oakley (founded 1870), and White Sands (founded 1872). In 1886, mining engineer George Wickersham recommended that Cache Valley be drained so water could be brought to irrigate fields northeast of town for growing corn, beans, potatoes and other crops; this idea was not taken up until 1905 when developers Harry Hopkins and Charles Mix were approached about developing what then became known as "The Strip" along Interstate 80 between Henderson and Mill Creek valleys north of town – a development proposal that never happened because water rights were acquired by Wells Fargo & Company just north of town before any developments could take place there. On July 16th 1908 officials from twelve western states convened at Promontory Summit near Moab to discuss creating an organization dedicated to providing leadership for those struggling against federal encroachment into their respective territories during a time of economic recession———————————————————————- Meanwhile back in Reno socialites had already started packing up their belongings for what would soon become known as "TheDepression". This group included many high ranking members such as bankers/politicians James Fenton & Alfred Marshall along with many Anglo women who had married into prominent local families like Mrs Saunders (& her daughter Jennie) Grandma Newman (& her granddaughter Nora) Sylvester Smith (& his son Everett) among others ------------ As soon as money became available again following World War I things resumed more or less normal but no one really knew how things would pan out ……………………………………….. On November 8th 1928 banking magnate John Drexel announced plans to build a new shopping center across US 20 from Pershing Square eastward just outside downtown Reno ................................................................…………………. A few days later construction started on what would eventually become Northgate Mall although some locals still refer to it simply as "Mall" today……………………………………….. Northgate Mall opened its doors on January 6th 1929 while Downtown Reno continued operations under new management led by Mayor Thomas McIntyre until February 14th 1951 when he was replaced by Harry Bennett

The city was founded on October 15, 1911 by pilots from Boise, Idaho who were looking for land to start a new settlement after the completion of the railroad's line from Carson City to Reno.
