Illegal shootings reached epidemic proportions resulting in dozens upon dozens dead victims each month across America during this difficult time period which has been dubbed “The Great American Crime Wave” (Quintanilla & Hebert). Despite multiple efforts by local officials over many years various Target Shooting Facilities failed both politically and physically due To numerous factors including lack of funding; competition from other sport shooters; changing terrain caused by technological advancements leading directly towards more accurate handguns; social taboos against violence; increased access with current technology following mass shootings etc., Target Shooting facilities continue operating successfully today thanks largely to private donations/ support from individuals interested in seeing them restored back into public use(Hutchinson et al.).

The first firearms were imported into Mesquite, Nevada in 1885. A rifle known as the .45-70 was purchased by W.C. Hite from a rancher in that town on October 3, 1885. The first gunfight in Mesquite took place on November 15 of that year when two Mexicans were killed and four others were wounded by W.C. Hite with his .45-70 rifle. On January 10, 1886, W.C. Hite shot and killed John Bigham while Bigham was making a getaway car with three horses at an abandoned cattle ranch eight miles east of Mesquite

Mesquite is a town in Clark County, Nevada, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Area. Mesquite is located on the east side of the Nevadan capital of Reno and it is bordered by Pershing Heights to the north, North Las Vegas to the west, Henderson to the south-west and Spring Valley to the south-east. The first Europeans to visit what is now Mesquite were wagoners who came through this area in 1845. A post office called Mesquite was established in 1848, and soon after meeting other needs such as teachers and farmhands. By 1860 there were around 100 residents living here including 20 men who ran a store which became known as "The Gilded Cage." In 1872 dynamite experiments were conducted at nearby Silar Mountain where early Mesquite residents George Purdy (1835-1924) and James McDonald (1841-1920) had a home that still stands today. This event helped start mesquite's economy as businesses started popping up all around town with goods being bought and sold with explosives instead of horses or wagons. In 1907 an oil well was drilled near present day Mesquite by Standard Oil Company founder John Drexel Jr., making it one of history's earliest drilling operations outside of North America when he leased 9 acres from ranchers Harry Hays and Wm Mead for $2 per acre (). The town quickly grew thanks to this new source of income; by 1909 there were over 200 homes, 50 stores, 10 churches, 5 schools, 3 hotels and 1 jail in town! “Mesquite has always been an important center for trade due its location on major highways connecting Reno with Las Vegas etc.,” according to historian Verna Kaptur “and because it prospered during prohibition years thanks largely to word-of mouth advertising from bootleggers operating out of local bars along I‑10” . In 1933 Prohibition ended but alcohol sales continued until 1949 when they were outlawed statewide! The last hotel built in Mesquite was Birdie’s Inn which closed its doors in 1957 following several fire outbreaks including one that destroyed most of downtown business in 1959! Today only a few foundations remain standing from these buildings dating back to those days: Birdie’s Inn Foundation Museum & Hallmark Store #1 (still standing), First National Bank Building (now part of Starwood Hotels & Resorts), courthouse Annex #2 (also still standing), civic center annex #3 (& also Still Standing school building). All other structures have been demolished or are no longer extant."
Mesquite was founded in 1865 by Captain James W. Mesquite and his wife, Nancy. The town sprang up around a sawmill that Captain Mesquite started on the mesa above the town. In 1887, Mesquite was named for Major General Charles Fenton of the Union army during the Mexican-American War.
