By 1915, Mesquite had grown into an important mining and development center as over 100 mines were operating here including 20 by Bingham Mines Company and 25 by Consolidated Mining Company; these mines produced silver, gold, copper and other minerals that helped make Mesquite one of America's most vibrant towns during its early years. A 1930s survey shows that Mesquite had a population of 2,000 people but this number rapidly grew to more than 4,000 by 1940 due to rapid growth in both industry and housing following World War II when mesquite became home to many military personnel stationed throughout western Nevada along with their families.
