Benny's longevity as an entertainer influenced many people including Elvis Presley who popularized rockabilly music while playing at The Sahara casino during his early years as a professional performer

It began as a Paiute Indian settlement called Soweto on the southern edge of what is now downtown Las Vegas. Spanish explorer Hernán Cortés named it La Vega de las Vegas in 1541, and called it Cibao because of its abundant water resources. The name changed to Las Vegas in 1851 when gold was discovered in the area.
