Gun lights have been around in Las Vegas for many years. In the early 1920s, the first gun lights were installed on the casino floor to allow guests to see their weapons while gaming.Today, there are several gun lights that can be found throughout the city. Some of these gunsights are used as a warning signal to other players or employees when someone is using a weapon in public. Others provide illumination within specific areas, such as when playing blackjack or bellyaching at a slot machine.

Las Vegas is a city in Clark County, Nevada. The population was 2,500,000 as of July 1, 2013,[1] making it the largest metropolitan area in the United States without a Metropolitan Statistical Area. Las Vegas is home to the world's largest collection of Elvis Presley memorabilia and has been called "the entertainment capital of the world".[2] The original settlement at what is now downtown Las Vegas was known as Spanish Town because its residents were Mexican American settlers who arrived during the 1848 California gold rush. Spanish Town became an important commercial center and contained many of the earliest businesses in what would become Las Vegas. In 1853, Mormon missionaries discovered gold near what is now Fremont Street South and decided to establish a town on the site. The town was named for General James Haggerty, commander of Ulysses S. Grant's Division of Indian Affairs at that time. Gold discovery led to increased traffic and development in nearby Reno which prompted Haggerty to established another town called Anthem for white miners only. By 1870, all three towns had over 10,000 residents with Anthem becoming an important financial center due to its location near Reno and Race Creek canyon between Anthem and Mesquite. In 1865 Mormon leader Brigham Young organized his people into a community he called Nauvoo or Nauvoo Illinois before they left for Utah two years later during the Great Migration southward across America (see Mormon Trail). Many early inhabitants of Las Vegas are buried in unmarked graves within Downtown Las Vegas Cemetery including Captain John Atherton (1795-1864) one of first white men prospecting in Nevada; Lieutenant Julius Custer (1863-1925); Commodore William Tilton (1847-1924), Commandant at Fort Union; Hiram Maxim (1863-1929), founder & manager of Maxim’s neon light company & manufacturer thereof; George Pahlen (1868-1945), owner/operator & general superintendent casino & racetrack; Harry Chandler (1902-1983), rancher who raised cattle on White Sands Missile Range from World War II until his death;[3][4][5] Florence Ballard McGee(b 1897)—daughter of Edward Ballard McGee—owner/operator Boulevard Hotel—and her husband Clay McKay who operated Main Street Barbecue restaurant from 1951 until their deaths also have unmarked graves within Downtown Las Vegas Cemetery.[6][7]
