Henderson, Nevada is a small town located in Clark County, Nevada. Henderson was founded on February 14, 1870 by Colonel John C. Hudspeth and his wife Margaret. The population of Henderson at the time was only about 130 people. By the end of 1871, the population had swollen to 1,200 people and by 1872 it had reached 2,000 people. In 1875, Henderson became a city and has since grown to be one of the most populous towns in Clark County. The history of Henderson starts with its establishment as a small frontier town. It was first known as “Henderson Station” due to its location on the Southern Pacific Railroad line between Carson City and Reno. The station was built on what is now US Highway 95A. After years of being a stop for travelers on their way southward, Henderson became an incorporated town on July 1st, 1886 when it joined Carson City under the name “Hendersonville” after Mayor James Manners who led the effort to incorporate the community along with other localities around Carson City. In 1908, Henderson saw its first major event when it hosted an international fair called “The Great Western Exhibition” which attracted over 100 000 visitors from all across America and Canada. The fair also featured exhibits from such famous companies as Apple Inc., J & G Lumber Company and Wells Fargo Bank. On November 3rd 1925, Driscoll Field opened up in what is now downtown Henderson as part of World War II military airbase operations that were conducted near Las Vegas Boulevard South (now Hoover Dam Plaza). Today this area is home to two shopping malls – one called Northgate mall and another called Westgate mall – as well as numerous businesses including Sears Holdings Inc., KFC Worldwide International Corporation and Ford Motor Company facilities that are used by both military personnel stationed here during wartime and civilians working within these industries who use these buildings for business purposes also!
